Thats the other bit of it. you fly a commercial airliner, hell yes i want you sober.
You sit in a toll booth all day, you should be allowed to be stoned so you don't die of boredom.
I think with sports, the teams don't want pot use to tarnish their image.
I know if you're union construction and you get hurt on the job, the first thing that gets done at the hospital is a drug test. The union doesn't want to pay your medical bills if you're breaking their laws. So, it really depends on the incident, job, etc. - seedy
Correct and given the players collectively bargained these tests, as do many employees, these are the rules and we can't just say don't enforce them. I'm guessing this may be an instance where the league and the union get together to address their current stance on marijuana and re categorize that so it's not classed with harder drugs. Then, I'm all for relaxing it.
Heck, many employers aren't even testing for it anymore. Granted not a majority, but that trend is becoming more popular. But in this instance, it's part of the CBA the players had representation for and agreed to, therefore it stands. |

I don't know how the league can suspend you for weed but not for cocaine
That'd be pretty ridiculous in my mind - gerbe75pts
Because they have to catch you doing it, white powder in a video is proof of white powder in a video, but when you piss positive for pot metabolites that's pretty undeniable. Coke stays in your system for a very short period of time, a few days, if you're a heavy user longer. So even if he took it and they test him today it's likely to be undetectable in urine unless he's Tony Montana Jr. |

I laid this out a couple pages back. The league informs players 60-90 days before they test them. They know its coming all they have to do is not smoke for a few weeks every now and then. A player has nobody to blame but themselves for a failed test... They know its coming! |

Not 100% accurate. When I got hurt I was never tested. |

Yep.
They give these guys more than enough notice.
Hmmm... It's almost like they DON'T want to catch them. |

Beckham is going to end up with Aldon Smith if he keeps this up - gerbe75pts
Did he punch the girl in the video? Make a bomb threat at an airport? If not I don't see how the 2 are even remotely comparable. |

They absolutely do not want to catch them. It doesnt help anyone, not coaches, owners, the league or its sponsors. The nfl doesnt care if guys smoke pot, its a running joke in the locker room. They all show up stinking like pot all the time. It is encouraged actually, players going out on the town boozing it up, making it rain at strip clubs and such is terrible for the league. Guys sitting on the couch stoned dont get in trouble. |

Im pretty sure when they do go get in trouble at the club they are stoned too. I valeted cars for a bit when i was a lot younger, nfl players porsches and range rovers would routinely reek like pot. One time i had a former bills player valet his truck, i got in it and found a sack with about an ounce just sitting on the passeger seat. He didnt even try and hide it. Got tipped in weed from an nfl player once too. |

I absolutely agree with yours and everyone elses opinion on how they feel about pot.
But that doesn't change the current law and it certainly doesn't change any employers current law. I get what all of you guys are saying about the morals of it, but thats not an excuse to break the current laws. especially ones you agreed to in order to be employed.
This is like people trying to talk parking enforcement out of a ticket. "Coulda woulda shoulda" doesn't change the fact that theres no money in the meter and you weren't in your car. - seedy
I was literally in my car, with it running, with 5 other cars ahead of/behind me and she comes over and says you have to move, and I told her I was just waiting for my friend to come out, there was no other parking anywhere near the area hence all the other cars, and she says if you're not gone by the time I get back you're getting a ticket, I said "ok". She literally walked 10 feet down the sidewalk, ignored all the other cars that were there when I got there, turned around and wrote me a ticket. What an bumhole. |
