Not to sound negative, but is Hunter not shaping up to the be Super Scout everyone thought he was?
Everyone was raving about him in 2015, but the results of that draft aren't looking spectacular to me.
4th overall - Marner (was going to be him, Hanifin, or Provorov. All good picks)
34th - Dermott (looking pretty good so far, but time will tell) Aho and Carlo were drafted shortly after.
61 - Bracco - 4 goals in 37 games. not having a very impressive first season with the Marlies.
65 - Nielsen - most of our other prospects and signings appears to have passed him on the depth chart
68 - Dzierkals - currently in the ECHL
95 - Lindgren - pretty sure we didn't sign him to a contract and he's now in Finland
125 - Timashov - producing at about the same rate as Rychel in the AHL.
155 - Desrochers - didn't sign and not in the org
185- Korostelev - didn't sign, not in the org.

2016 not looking much better for Hunter, tried drafting a bunch of over agers and not many are panning out.
Matthews was an obvious pick
Grundstrom (most likely a Bergman draft choice)
don't see much in the others.

Am I wrong?

i hear ya.

i'm happy with demott.

with rychel, kapanen and eventually johnsson off the marlies, bracco and tymashov will get bigger roles. still young and developing.

but if demott and one other late pick from 2015 become full time nhler's i'd say he's doing pretty good. most guys won't make it.

It's been two years. Not every pick is going to be a home run, especially after just two years.

Gathering more and keeping all picks, only improve your odds at getting keepers.

That being said, I didn't like the overage strategy. I think the stats show that the opposite is more effective by drafting the youngest players, more often than not.

Serious question:

I don't watch cartoons, except Archer, in this cartoon are they trying to get the dog to bang the woman?

That's kinda (frank)ed up.

PS, instead of all the lights and air traffic controller guy....maybe peanut butter would do the trick?

That's a joke how obvious she wanted it and he didn't want to yet.

Brian is treated like a human except sometimes for comedic relief.

It's less funny when explained. Just watch the episode.

Explain.

Both the veto on Teemu and drafting a Commy in the 1st round.

I don't think Teemu can skate well enough for NA and Komarov is still better (though older and more expensive). Rather just let a local Marlie make the jump.

Kravtsov has been injured a bit this year but he massacred the MHL, dominant in a small sample on a bad VHL squad (the KHL's AHL) and has put up really solid numbers for an 18 year old in the K. Had a really good first playoffs series too.

Good size and skating too.

Ranked in the second round (like Kucherov)

Did pretty good at a young age in the AHL. Pay Barb Underhill double.

It seems like most European prospects are playing in small sample sizes because they play half as many games as CHL prospects. I've never liked that.

Well in this case it was because he was in the K and V for most of the season He played 45 games this season in total.

Dahlin played 42. For CHL prospects, that's half a season.

Are they following some kind of a soccer style schedule? Can't they push it to at least 60 games? For the top end talent, it's pretty obvious who is legit and who isn't after 40 games but after that, the waters get muddy. And then when they come over to try and play in the NHL, they hit a wall mid-season because they've never played more than 40-something games. I think they're hurting their own development a bit.

this should be obvious but that is the real reason that European and College prospects are not viewed as positively as CHL graduates. The CHL proves these kids to a much greater degree... based on that - with only very few exceptions - do you take a chance on a non-CHL player in the top couple of rounds. Historical trends would prove this out.. and that's why the truly elite enduring players are CHL graduates. That's not to say you can't have a college player be very good... but they should be a better known quantity by the time they are 22 years old ...

what does this do to your long preached theory about re-building around top 3 picks only - and re-starting the rebuild if you don't have instant playoff success - AND you have to wait at least five years before you can say you are competing for the cup...

how does it all fit together?
