I honestly don't see how he's not getting a contract for next season.
He's playing great.

It could explain why both Lindgren and Niemi have a better save % than Price does though.. |

Shaw is completely broken.
For himself and his health, I think he should stop playing.... that's his third concussion this year.
Would also free us from that horrible contract. |

Shaw did KO himself trying to hit Pateryn.
Pateryn did give Shaw 2 small punches while the guy was obviously out cold. |

It's an interesting scenario. I don't know how I feel about it either way. Like, I could understand the punches because Pateryn was the target of the hit, and Shaw was the one that went down. But then did Pateryn actually know he was out? Was he still pissed because he got hit and did stupid poop? Is pateryn just a dumbass? |

When a guy is on the ground, not moving, if you don't realize he's out cold, you're a moron.
So "yes" to all of your questions. |

Yea I'm not sure about it either. Pateryn took head on head contact too. He was probably dazed/angry and saw some red. I think after the first shot he gave him he clued in and started to try and direct players away from stepping on him.
Edit: Watched it again. I think he mistook the unconscious mummy pose as Shaw looking up at him with his arms out. Blind rage probably took over before he figured out he was punching an out cold guy. |

It's not the number of shots that matter, it's the quality of the shots, and the Leafs don't give up as many shots from quality areas as people think. - TheMussel
Agreed. A lot of the time we seem hemmed in our own zone, it's almost like a rope-a-dope thing. Most shots are to the outside, and we just sort of hang on until the other team makes a mistake.
I've seen this method of play work in the playoffs quite a bit. Back when we played Detroit in the Gilmour years, or when Carolina beat us in the conference final. It only really works if you have above average goal tending and skilled forwards, but we have both.

Right or wrong... "It's not the number of shots that matter, it's the quality of the shots" was EXACTLY the Randy Carlyle Leafs' mantra... so do what you will with that information. |

Not to sound negative, but is Hunter not shaping up to the be Super Scout everyone thought he was?
Everyone was raving about him in 2015, but the results of that draft aren't looking spectacular to me.
4th overall - Marner (was going to be him, Hanifin, or Provorov. All good picks)
34th - Dermott (looking pretty good so far, but time will tell) Aho and Carlo were drafted shortly after.
61 - Bracco - 4 goals in 37 games. not having a very impressive first season with the Marlies.
65 - Nielsen - most of our other prospects and signings appears to have passed him on the depth chart
68 - Dzierkals - currently in the ECHL
95 - Lindgren - pretty sure we didn't sign him to a contract and he's now in Finland
125 - Timashov - producing at about the same rate as Rychel in the AHL.
155 - Desrochers - didn't sign and not in the org
185- Korostelev - didn't sign, not in the org.
2016 not looking much better for Hunter, tried drafting a bunch of over agers and not many are panning out.
Matthews was an obvious pick
Grundstrom (most likely a Bergman draft choice)
don't see much in the others.
Am I wrong? - ILoveLamp
up to this point I dont see Hunter being more efficient than other teams at uncovering NHL talent (after rd1)
will have to wait out those later picks though. drafting is hard

"I thought he took a run at me. I'll take a look at it again, but it seemed like his head hit mine," Pateryn said. "There's a reason a guy like that gets four or five concussions a year and I think his play speaks for itself.
I don't think Pateryn liked it, and probably thought Shaw was head-hunting |

Travis Dermott missed #Leafs practice yesterday with an illness but he’s heading out for the optional morning skate. Red Sweater Wearer Auston Matthews also heading out. Calle Rosen has been officially sent back to the #Marlies as well, so Dermott should be good to go tonight. |
