Reading the philly.com article about the scoring drought and this really sums it up. The Ghost item is scary given how good he was earlier with scoring.



Several Flyers are in long droughts:

Lindblom hasn’t collected a point since being recalled from the Phantoms, though he has played a responsible two-way game and has gotten lots of scoring opportunities.
Third-line center Val Filppula, whose failed clear led to Vegas’ winning goal with 2 minutes, 40 seconds left Monday, has no goals in the last 24 games.
Shayne Gostisbehere has no goals in the last 19 games.
Michael Raffl has no goals in the last 15 games.
Jordan Weal, a healthy scratch the last three games, has no goals in his last 13 games.
Sean Couturier, who has been stuck on 29 goals since Feb. 16, hasn’t turned on the red light in 12 games.
Scott Laughton has no goals in the last 11 games.

goal drought can be overrated in the sense that Ghost in those same 19 games has 16 assists. Coots has 6 in the 12 games and his linemates have 10 (G with 6 and TK with 4). goals are going in with their help and while they are on the ice.

Filppula has been bad. Weal has been a disappointment for sure.

Agreed but doesnt change the fact that both Ghost and Coots not scoring right now is a bad thing.

At least those two drive play in other ways..the other names on that list not so much.

I don't think Schenn would have done that much more than career average here this year at 2C or a wing on the second line. I think him and Wayne kinda are what they are. If they didn't trade Schenn and get lucky with the pick of Patrick, I think G is still at center. Which totally blocks Schenn from being much more than he was last year in my eyes.

Quite a nice list. I have a personal hatred for players who can't skate for poop so I am not counting Strome as of yet (although have to admit I've seen next to nothing for most of these guys).

Its funny though, still all about G in my eyes. Can he still be a really good player by the time the youth infusion is complete? If not, you need to find another elite war horse. Dont win with mediocrity.

I wanted to trade him for Rinne at one point last year just to get out of the contract.

A healthy G has really once again carried this club this season. I hope he wins it all with this club at least once, he's gone through these purgatory years doing it all season after season.
