I agree you can probably get more value in terms of prospects and picks. However this would be a deal to make if Hextall is valuing roster fit and potential instead. There is risk considering how injury prone Hertl has been.
- Baxter27

Appleyard threw out some names in a tweet earlier this year (we spoke about it here too).

- Tomáš Hertl
- Radek Faksa
- Kevin Fiala
- Timo Meier
- André Burakovsky
- Adrian Kempe
- Oliver Bjorkstrand
- Pavel Buchnevich
- Anders Bjork

He also admitted some were not idealistic.

Of that list I like Meier, Fiala and Kempe.

I like Faksa as well, he's just not as 'sexy' as some of those other names.

The question I have for you is if Couturier has replaced Schenn's output, who has replaced Couturier's. I've never understood this logic. No matter how you spin it, the Flyers lost a 20 goal, 50 point player out of the lineup that if he wasn't traded, would be in the lineup still in addition to any new players that were added. Do we think playing Schenn at wing would produce more in a top 9 role that Weal or Raffl has?
- MJL

We will never know. And this is one of those things that doesn't make any sense to compare. if Schenn is here maybe Couturier doesn't get the chance to break out. Maybe Patrick is limited to a 3rd line center role all year. maybe Giroux never shifts to wing. Maybe Konecny's game doesn grow.

There are so many variables.

I look at it like this:

The Flyers lost a 20 goal guy in Schenn.

But they also got to see Couturier breakout offensively and growth from some young players. Would Schenn help...YES. Was the trade good though....Yet to be determined but Frost looks like a find right now and the Flyers thought it was best for them in the long term.

My point is Coots and Schenn's output last year was replaced by Coots, G and Jake.

Coots alone is 15g and 15a ahead of last season. So 5 and 20 isn't hard to replace with others...

I can already see it now. Simmonds wasn't that good. Just like JvR. Just like Carter. Just like Schenn. Our talent is the best of the best...until it's time to move them. Raffl and Weal are so awesome!!

Lehtera might be earning himself a 4th line role for next season. Unless they need the cap space. Simmonds is going to need a hell of a stretch run to keep his name out of trade rumors. I actually thought he was playing pretty well last night until he lost that battle.
- Baxter27

might be?

I agree he has and I would rather him at center than Flip

next, his contract, he will be 4th line for sure, no buyout

The PP is at least as good as last year and I think the Flyers are on pace to score more this year than last. So I am fine with the trade even before you factor in the two draft picks one of which turned into Frost. The lottery win was the key move of last offseason. Without Patrick this team is 3-4 years away compared to 1-2 with him.

Correct. i think getting Patrick maybe moved everything up just a little.

Also Couturier being able to be a top line center has given you a potential strong 1-2 center option.

Dude just stop. Nobody is saying Simmonds isn't that good. It's the fact that he'll be 30 and looking for a big deal, which is something I'd be hesitant to give to an aging power forward for what he's most likely going to be asking for. So it's not a bad idea to see what you can get for him if he's looking for a contract out of the price/term range the flyers are looking for.
- ajw12

I really like Simmonds and would hate to see him go, however, this is my concern as well. I don’t want to see him signed for term and big money then see him fall off a cliff. May not happen. He could end up being a productive player for the next 5-6 years. It just is a concern to get stuck with a bad contract if he isn't. tough call considering what he means to the team

I agree with Bill Meltzer, plenty of blame to go around. MacDonald should be down the list.
- MJL

he would be last, he was left with what everyone else didnt do.
