it doesn't bother me that they aren't scoring because they are picking up assists. as long as someone is scoring when they are on the ice that is all I care about - nastyflyergirl
I hear that but lets not ignore the fact they, as a team ,are averaging less than 2 goals a game over the past 7 or whatever. that isnt sustainable with G really being the only consistent goal scorer.

to me that falls more on lines 3 and 4 who are not producing. Line 1 has been and line 2 has been to a degree altho it would be nice to see more. line 3 and 4 not so much. I could be wrong but it just seems like Filppula's line is always hemmed in their own zone. not looking at fancy stats to back that up but just seems that way
I agree that Lappy has to go. Our PK has been going down hill for a while with no signs of improvement.
Does anybody here know the last time our 2nd PP unit scored a goal? - Thors-Hammer
At this point, the unit should become a shooting unit umbrella with Patrick Provorov Konecny firing from the points and Lindblom plus another big body stationed at the end. Filppula is adding no value to it.
If it didn't cost a fortune I'd be all about it. I'll be happy to take a forward and another D man however. Or two forwards. I'm not picky. - hereticpride
yeah i'd be fine taking a C/LW and a D. i'm not in love with really anyone outside of Zadina and Dahlin though.

Its brutal looking at lines 3 and 4 when it comes to production..
Just scary bad.
I don't think Schenn would have done that much more than career average here this year at 2C or a wing on the second line. I think him and Wayne kinda are what they are. If they didn't trade Schenn and get lucky with the pick of Patrick, I think G is still at center. Which totally blocks Schenn from being much more than he was last year in my eyes. - dragonoffrost
Adding Schenn's career average in scoring would be a big boost to this team offensively. Players like Weal and Weise have spent time in the top 9.
teams key up on the top unit and the 2nd unit passes the puck around the outside, then they have Flip as the right side QB, you know Mr. O himself. I really think they should shift coots and patrick, I know one is right and one is left but both very smart players and could adjust. Maybe the real play is Simmonds for Patrick, someone last night said maybe the 2nd unit would actually get the puck to the net. - wcorvette
I don't buy that at all. When you watch the 2nd unit they have two issues. One is with entries and getting the puck set up and the second is creating opportunities and open shooting lanes. Watch how many times the 2nd unit has their shots blocked. I find the idea that they'll all of a sudden get the puck to the net simply because Simmonds is out there pretty illogical. Simmonds would be wasted on the 2nd unit and it would cut his PP in half or more. The best creative forward they have for the 2nd unit is Patrick.

There is no doubt that Filppula is declining as a player, especially offensively. This is speculation on my part because you never can know for a fact but in my opinion without Filppula at center this season, this team would not be in a playoff spot at this point. If they would've had to push Patrick harder earlier in the season or elevate Laughton, the Flyers would've been in trouble. They're already playing Couturier into early retirement.

I personally would move Coots, if the struggle continues. I mentioned Simmonds because of the comment someone made, Simmonds deserves to be on PP1. The idea of them actually getting the puck to the net was sarcastic. Both squads need to get the puck to the net, PP1 did a little better at that last game. As far as zone entrance on pp2, Flip is not the answer, not sure they have one. I think weal could but they need a better scheme, not just drop the puck and skate in, maybe intentional dump ins. There is no easy answer. What I do know, with the time of season, they need to play the hot hand. Patrick is the hot hand. Another bad game or two they will have little choice to change

The scheme works. It comes down to talent, execution and making plays as far as the PP is concerned. I don't believe Couturier is the player to help the 2nd unit. Provorov and Patrick have to set people up on the PP. That's a part of Patrick's game that still needs to evolve at the NHL level. Not sure on your last comment concerning Partick being the hot hand and changing is that's just about the PP or overall.

Not about the long term, we agree there, Patrick will need to be able to run #2. But yeah, when Simmonds was out Patrick was good on PP1, not usually an issue but PP1 is struggling. Honestly besides g and jake patrick is on the puck better than most anyone right now. Why I said if they continue to struggle they might have to change. They need wins now,
A change might have to happen

I understand where you're coming from but I don't make any changes to the #1 unit. It's only a matter of time until they start humming along again and the puck starts going in. Gostisbehere is going to pot some soon. It's inevitable.
