NAK would be a perfect bottom 9 winger for this team RH shot with good speed who has been excellent 5 on 5. I think Weal is in trouble next season. If he isn't scoring, he isn't good enough defensively to play on the 3rd line. - ravishingone
NAK seems a lot like another Taylor Leier to me. I don’t see enough nhl qualities in him |

They can’t trust the health of the D, mostly oduya. Don’t think we’ll sanheim go anywhere, unless he is just that bad |

The theme seems to be which Phantoms players can be called up for the stretch run etc etc.
I just dont see Hexy gutting the Phantoms while they have their own DEEP playoff run to make this season. And it has the potential to be a MUCH deeper run than the Flyers will make.
To be honest I wouldn't be surprised to see Sanheim get sent back once Hagg is healthy.

It wouldn't surprise me at all. Sanheim still played only 12 minutes while manning etc got 20+. However he has 2 weeks to prove that he can benefit this team and he has to do it at Even strength and spot PK duties. If he proves it and elevates his game to being able to play 15+ minutes he will stay imo. |

If it were up to me I would hope Sanheim stays and replaces Manning. |

I don't like sanheim with gudas. I think if he stays up he needs to play with amac and pair hagg with gudas. But that is what I would like to see personally. |

Oh I didn't say he would play with Gudas, I said he would replace Manning. And then you shuffle the pairs as needed.

It all comes down to making the jump at the next level. I think NAK could be the next Raffl. Leier hasn't done much at the NHL level, but he is definitely good enough to be in the NHL |

Deployment and role plays an issue. Like you alluded to earlier, Hakstol sheltered Sanheim and elevated the Gudas/Manning pairing. They had a good game but can we count on that pairing to play 20 minutes a night, game in and game out?

Sanheim should be playing here because he deserves it. NAK is the only one I see getting a call up, if needed, but I think Weise/Read/Leier will replace anyone before that. I could see Martel if Konecny or Weal get hurt.
None of the other defensemen are going to come up right now. The Phantoms will also get players once college/junior season ends so they would conceivably have enough depth. |

As a 13th forward maybe for Leier. He hasn't shown me he should be anything more in his time in the NHL. |

Sure, he can just play Sanheim 25 minutes a night if he wants to. |

Yup. Hagg better balances the lineup though. If we look at strictly even strength minutes manning/gudas had 3 minutes more than Sanheim. If Hagg were in the lineup he would be on the PK per usual and manning would only get spot duties so in theory there would be a much smaller difference in minutes from the 20 to 12 comparison from the jets game. Sanheim needs to continue to play well and gain trust in tight playoff like games and get up around that 15 minute mark to stay up. His play will dictate what happens over the next 2 weeks. Lindblom already has proven that. |

I think he was saying that Leier has the skill to be in the NHL but he was unable to turn his skill into on ice results.
I like NAK more than I like Leier. But I'm also not expecting him to pot 20 a year from a bottom 6 role without PP time. He is also much younger and still has room to continue to grow. |

I think if Sanheim can continue to play as well as he did against Winnipeg he can handle increased minutes. Right now I agree with you concerning Hagg. Ultimately though I see Hagg as a 3rd pair level defender and Sanheim as a high minute 2 way defenseman.

Other than some quickness and speed, I don't see much in Leier at the NHL level.

Yeah he could. Sanheim didn't do anything do warrant a minutes reduction. He played great. Point is that Sanheim being around doesn't mean Hakstol has to play Manning and Gudas more |

Leier is a year removed from being an AHL all star, he has flashed a good shot, he is quick and can play a 4th line role. He was good at the beginning of the year. I am not going to shed any tears if he doesn't stick around, but he is clearly good enough for the NHL. Those kinds of guys stick around and bounce all over the league. Harry Z is one that comes to mind |

No coach has to do anything. It wasn't a reduction. It was his first NHL game in months and he is a rookie. Sanheim is going to have to earn more minutes and the Flyers might be reluctant to overexpose him. It's about role and usage. |

Before this season, Harry Z played 3 NHL games the previous two seasons. There are far more players like him and Leier that remain career AHL players than regulars in the NHL. He's serviceable at best at this point unless he improves.

I think SanHeim knows he will earn it, I think he knew he had to fix some of his game and is pretty clear on what is expected. There is 1 more part, who makes the team better? All D make mistakes, look at Manning . If it is clear that Sanheim gives them a better chance to win, mistakes and all, he will play. |
