Can Sorokin leave in the middle of the contract or no? I was kinda hoping he only did that cause if the Olympics. - Dedshark
If Sorokin leaves in the middle of the contract and he's playing for Putin's favorite team, then he's taking his life in his hands. Chiefs posted something about this the other day. I forget which team he's playing for.....
Regardless, if the Isles are willing to pay a huge sum, then yeah, they can probably pry him from his KHL team. Unfortunately, paying huge sums for players has not generally worked out well for the Islanders. |

That's what Wang said about DiPietro.
Seriously, I would love to see Sorokin playing for the Isles. Question: How many $Millions should L & M be willing to pay just to get him to break his contract? And then, if he plays a season or two for the Isles, maybe he doesn't like America and pulls a Kovalchuk? It's all very risky for the Isles.... |

I'm pretty sure, not positive, that the player has to buy out their own contract. NHL clubs can't do it for them. |

With #isles fans energized by the three starts this season from Christopher Gibson, probably a good time to note that unless he he signed by 7/1, Gibson will become a (group 6) Unrestricted FA. #NHL |

OK, or else what? He gets sent to Siberia? What incentive is there for the player to buy out his own contract? The Isles would have to make it financially viable for him to do that. Regardless, I question whether it makes sense for the Isles, if it's going to cost them many, many $millions.
My original point was that it's extremely unlikely that Sorokin is going to leave Mother Russia to play in the NHL, until, at the earliest, his current contract has expired. Not sure, but I think he's got at least a couple of years left on that contract. |

I was joking about DP. Sorokin looks like he could be a lot better. |

They are going to ruin Barzal. WTF is wrong with this team. Every time they have a line that is doing well they somehow try to tweak it to make it "better". It drives me effing bananas. You have a million issues that need to be fixed.. Let's mess with the one thing that is working really well... Ex:
Moulson trade- at the time of this trade the Moulson/JT/Okposo line was one of the best lines in hockey.... let's make a monster trade to make it better.. um..why?
4th line- It was often referred to as the "best 4th line in hockey". It might be b/c idiot boy Capuano put it out there against top lines all the time. That being said it was a very solid shut down line. Let's let MM walk and add Chimera to "Make it better".
The Kid line... remember that fiasco? That line was on fire so these idiots broke it up.
Now we have the Eberle/Barzal/Bouv line. It has been the lone bright spot in a horrific season. Let's put that turd Ladd on the line to eff it up. It's just friggin absurd.
Hey Doug, Ladd SUX!! He is not the same guy you played with a decade ago. Stop trying to justify a sht contract. Stop putting him out there as a shut down guy at the end of the game too. He can't skate anymore. He can't shoot anymore. He stinks... |

https://www.newsday.com/s...rzal-islanders-1.17252733 This article is just a fken joke. He picks the one play where Barzal lost the puck and tries to turn it into an issue? He didn't "Pull Connor McDavid down" either.. he caught up to one of the fastest guy in the league and tried to lift his stick. the fact that they gave him a penalty shot on it was ridiculous. |

Or else he'd technically be in breach of his contract and would have to flee Russia to come play in the NHL. There is no NHL/KHL transfer agreement, like there is with the other Euro leagues. The Islanders could, I guess, pay him what the contract buyout costs under the table but they would likely be in deep sh it with the NHL if they got caught doing that.
I believe he is finishing up year one of what was a three year extension, so he should have two to go. Maybe we see him buy himself out or a mutual agreement to see him released for the final year of the deal, but I think it's more likely that he finishes out the deal before he makes the jump, if he does at all. |

They wouldn't have to pay him under the table. They could just add it to whatever his salary would have been. Call it a signing bonus, whatever.... Either way, that could cost significant cap space, which is why I said this isn't happening. We seem to be in agreement there. We also agree that he likely has at least a couple more years left on his current contract.
Bottom line..... No one should hold their breath waiting for Sorokin.
By the way, wasn't it you who said a couple of seasons ago that Gibson was terrible? Looks like he's trying to make a liar out of you.... |

Yeah, this article was posted yesterday. I'm glad to see the coaching staff is at least trying to work with Barzal. Meanwhile, Ho-Sang, who has similar skills, has been rotting in Bridgeport, getting the Nino treatment. |

Snow gets a conditional 3 with JT's contract in his pocket, and fleeces Toronto, then gets himself an extension, you heard it here first. |

He's an AHL goalie that's played a handful of good games in the NHL, I'm still extremely confident he won't be any sort of long-term answer in net for an NHL team. I'd be perfectly happy to be dead-wrong, but it's pretty rare to see an average AHL goaltender get called up and turn into some sort of viable NHL starter. |

Just bustin' your shoes. Yeah, it's too early to predict a Vezina for the guy, but I can dream.... I also think he has looked better so far this season than he did 2 seasons ago during his last call-up. Goalies are often the last to gain their NHL form. As an example, I mentioned last night that Hasek didn't become The Dominator until he was in his late 20s.... And NO, I'm not saying this guy is as good as Hasek. |
