The Canes at least got Saarela and 2 picks out of letting Eric Staal go. The Rangers got 25 lazy games out of Eric Staal that culminated in 6 points. - tomburton99
What's Saarela's deal? He looks to have decent numbers in the AHL.
"Dark days indeed", TPC, with even darker ones ahead, and more especially so during a rebuild under the lasting tenure of this bench coaching staff, which should have been simultaneously replaced at the latest, when their "selling" memo was issued in early February. That's when some new direction could have had some time to have a say in their deadline plans. They must replace this staff once their regular season ends, in order to have at least 2 months time to assess their off season plans, including Draft and free agency wise. If not, this rebuild will take much longer than most feel it will require under its current and otherwise lost direction.

Decent numbers but we've got 5 forwards with better ones on that team alone. He's been good, and he can play at the NHL level soon, but there are an awful lot of guys ahead of him right now.

sounds like what the Bruins are going to get out of Rick Nash
"That's ban worthy" for making a correct fact here???
The Rangers pondered acquiring Eric Staal for awhile, and in the end felt that he was their missing piece needed at the 2016 deadline, in acquiring him for a then considered, top prospect in Saarella, plus 2nd Round picks in the 2016 and 2017 Drafts.
But Eric was not utilized correctly by A.V., who also played him out of position. Am I upset that the Rangers didn't re-sign the then pending UFA in Staal? No. He was not affordable at that time under their cap then. What I am upset about is how when given his chance to play like the Eric Staal of his Carolina days, Eric has excelled like then and more, which is another case of one that has shown by example, his ways of proving A.V. again being wrong. Maybe that lack of scoring in that prior season's ECF series loss to Tampa had been due also to some degree to A.V. than one may have ever suspected. I don't see Ben Bishop playing at a "King Ben" level in goal ever since.

And then fired your GM - rangerdanger94
Yeah I'm not sure about that one, but from all accounts it appears it's just a clash of styles.
Dundon wants a collaborator who's going to run the team kind of by committee and be more focused on the decision making process.
Francis was kept on board because Dundon knows Francis knows a hell of a lot more about hockey than he does, but he wants a different type of management structure and Francis wasn't the right fit.
Ron Francis, Tom Dundon and Don Waddell will all be involved in choosing the new GM.

Bruins forward Brad Marchand was fined by the NHL today $2k for diving in a game on March 1st. This POS was warned by league back in November for diving, hence an additional fine.
He has now been fined approx. $375k this season ALONE and $875k since 2011. When is the league going to get rid of these clowns?

McDavid would be lost here also under a system with no proper direction. I see how Edmonton will be in the Cup finals this season under a similar system with a coach even greater lost than A.V. has been this season.
You don't go from those NHL experts, Stanley Cup Finalist prediction for the Oilers, to a team equal to our downfall, when having a McDavid and Draisaitl in key up front, or just due to some unsuspected shortage of player talent only.
I felt all along that Eric Staal was lost under A.V.'s ways he was utilized during that post deadline and postseason, greatly dictating as to his lack of offensive production.
A high school hockey team wouldn't have been out shot 17-0 a little greater than halfway into the 1st period if playing against Tampa last night. It required "CAPTAIN" HANK to go to the bench during a 1st Period tv timeout to shell out some words to his mates, prior to them out shooting Tampa 6 to 4 for the balance of the period, (for a 21 - 6 S.O.G. deficit in that 1st). What was A.V. telling them to wait for up to that point?

Mcdavid has nothing to do with this. Stay on topic.

I'm the one who brought up the topic of Eric Staal today, "Professor", and feel that Staal was incorrectly used by A.V. while here that season, leading to his lack of offensive production they had expected. But that is nothing new under this coaching staff.

That's not true, like at all. Eric Staal slotted in behind Stepan and Brassard, allowing him easier match ups. Not only did he get easier match ups, AV moved Hayes from the center position to the wing in order to allow Eric Staal to play Center. Eric Staal was a dog here, plain and simple. He didn't care and didn't work. He can go piss into the wind.
