Lightning G Vasilevskiy fighting fatigue
TSN.ca Staff

Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender has emerged as the Vezina Trophy favourite with a 39-12-3 record this season.

The 23-year-old admitted Wednesday, however, that the career-high 54 starts he's already made are wearing on him.

"Tiredness is something that I probably never faced before," Vasilevskiy told the Tampa Bay Times. "I mean, 50-plus games. When you play in 20-plus games, it's like you think, 'Oh, I'm good, I can play 60-plus.' But now when I'm on 50-plus, I'm like, 'That's tough.'

"So that's why sometimes I'm probably not as sharp, like (I was) probably the first half of the season. That's why I have to adjust and be on the top of my game."

But I'm sure Andersen isn't though with the modern staff and whatnot.

Well one guy said it, so it must be scienmatiffically true and stuff.

From now on, I'm sure the sports physiologists on the Leafs' payroll will just read TSN staff articles instead.

I guess if I had to pick today, you take Barzal because you know he's capable of dominating the NHL.

But both will be amazing players.

The outdoor game, both Andersen and Holtby said it was hard to track the puck. The Sabres game, a lot of bounces, which Andersen could not foresee. The issue is not fatigue.. Clearly, Andersen is blind.

That must be such a big advantage the Leafs have over the Tampa Bay Lightning who probably don't even have a towel boy.

it's good vancouver is so poorly run outside of drafting.

they could be contenders soon with the few young high-end players they have. but they won't have any depth because of a piss poor rebuild.

Brodeur, for one, was unequivocal when asked how serious he was about playing a full season. “Every season that I started, I wanted to play 82 games,” he said. “There was no doubt in my mind I could do it. Don’t tell me physically and mentally my game is harder than Scott Stevens’ the way he played the game.”

Guy has the best team in front of him, almost never gets more than 30 shots a game.

That's cute but a different situation than Andersen. There's a huge difference from the 30+ shots that Andersen faces per game. As a Leafs fan, it should be really easy to remember Brodeur once facing a grand total of 6 shots in a single playoff game.

Brodeur: 75 games played, 1,845 shots faced. (24.6 shots per game.)

Brodeur: 72 games played, 1,797 shots faced. (24.9 shots per game)

Brodeur: 40 games played, 908 shots faced. (22.7 shots per game)

Those are the three years Brodeur won the Cup. Lots of games, very few shots, relatively speaking. And with the D he had in front of him, those were some easy shots most of the time.

If the Leafs can get the shots against down to 22.7 shots per game, Andersen can play as many games as he wants.
