Why are you using Girgensons as the comparable?

No one is saying everyone would have 58 points. I’m saying point totals don’t accurately depict skill level. Some points are in fact lucky.

You have to be on the ice to benefit from luck, good or bad.

- sbroads24

Because you said " he created that goal? Gimme a break"

Yeah he did create it. He put himself in a good position and finished the play. Was his positioning luck? Maybe, but he went to the low slot. That's good instinct. Then he had the skill to finish the play. Plenty of players wouldn't/couldn't create that

That goal was a slightly more obvious version of fortunate, but Matthews scored quite a few goals where he was in the right place at the right time last year.

Knowing where to be at the right time is 95% of this game

He has improved every season while the team has declined every year since his draft.

- zombres

IMO he has not improved the last 2 seasons

his ice time has gone up, but his play has been the same

and scandella, his partner is better than what he had on his side the other years

Oh my god. Ok you win. He placed himself perfectly to capitalize off that lucky bounce. Only a good player would have scored that goal.

flip side to the coin

we as a team has sucked for the last 3 years and risto is getting close to half the ice time

most of us thought myers would be a number 1 dman early on same for risto

it's ok being a decent 2/3 d man

we just need to find that #1 to play with him

scandella is not the long term answer as a top pair d man

- homiedclown

No hes not. None of these guys are. We need to either draft one, trade for one or sign a guy like Carlson that you can split the big minutes with. I personally wouldn't hate the idea of Carlson but I doubt it happens. I have also given up on locating a "#1 d-man". The entire top 6 just need an upgrade in general and we need to start getting offense from our d-men.

I agree with all of that, but I'd give him til 25 (and a better roster) before writing the book on his ceiling

Remember that goal against Arizona where Mike Smith backed into the net after the puck landed in his pants?

Helluva shot by Pysyk

How many times has Crosby scored a goal next to the net? Or Briere for that matter? People don't say, "oh that's so lucky." Good players put themselves in positions to score and they do. O'Reilly does it 20 times a year.

When Zemgus Girgensons played 19 minutes per game, he scored a career high 15 goals in 61 games.

Weird that since we acquired better players, and he’s played less, he hasn’t come close to that

Ted nolan is the goat, it's the only explanation that makes sense

It’s really weird that Girgensons stopped knowing where to be at the same time he started getting less ice time

So what you're saying is, even when he played 20 minutes a night, he still only had 30 points

.5 PPG

Has he come near that since?

No because he sucks. ROR is overextended past useful minutes because he plays too much and still has 49 in 66 (.74)

Good players are good, lesser players are lesser.

Btw, Nolan really did get the best out of him. I miss the Nolan Girgs who tried to steamroll his way to the net

Again, so why did he stop being good after the year that would have put him at a 20 goal 40 point pace?

He didn’t have good wingers, he didn’t score a lot on the PP. We didn’t score as a team.

Either it was luck, or due to ice time it seems

Except Risto actually produces above a #1C Girgs rate (.5) with Risto at (.56)
