of course they were worse he played the same team 6 times not 29 different teams, what do you thinks gonna happen when you play the top team in the league.

And he's going to face the Bruins or the Lightning between 4 and 7 times. What's the difference?

I double counted one example but the point still stands strong. The facts demonstrate that goalies facing 2,000+ shots in the past 10 years (which speaks to your idea that the modern goalie is immune to facing too many shots) have problems making and succeeding in the playoffs.

And specifically, to Andersen, he faced 2,000 shots last year, barely made the playoffs, had worse playoff numbers and lost in the 1st round. This year, the division sucks so there's less competition for that 3rd spot but Andersen is still on pace to face too many shots and is relied upon too much to steal games and the playoff results will likely be the same.

I wonder if his playoff numbers are reflective of him and his team facing the number 1 team in the league 6 times in a row.

It may be out of the realm of possibility, but it's possible that a good goalie, continues to be a good goalie.

Well you can easily make a case where a goaltender receiving over 2000+ shots in a season probably could use some help from his defense and that's it's not the best way to build a winner.

Bur your original point was that goaltenders who receive 2000+ shots perform less than a more "rested" goaltender....
in which case the Luongo example doesn't apply, hell even team success shouldn't be a barometer as sometimes the best goaltender loses the series.

- Scabeh

They perform less because of the situation they're in which is a combination of poopty defense and having to do too much to compensate for it which eventually leads to not being able to do it anymore.

Will be remembered with the other great 4 goal scorers of his time:

Auston Matthews, Lars Eller and Jan Bulis.

Let me type this again slowly, so you can read it:

The numbers you presented demonstrate that it does NOT pose a problem for making the playoffs, and a very, very weak correlation with succeeding in the playoffs.

Do you think his playoff numbers were worse, because maybe, Washington was a good team that won the President's trophy...Albeit, a little lucky for 70 games or so.

No.
Andersen may be one of the best goalies now.....but the future.....oh boy the future......where am I going with this again?

But.

Maybe, just maybe.....Andersen is at his best when faces a lot of shots?

You have it wrong.

Everything that happens after game 70 is only based on luck. Everything that happens before game 70 is based on how good your hockey team is.

We still have 8 games of seeing whether or not the Leafs are good, and then 12 games of seeing whether or not the Leafs are lucky.

For the third time, he's about to face either Boston or Tampa Bay for 4-7 games. Is that going to be any different?

i think there might be something to that. babcock's system does allow a lot of shots, but mainly from certain areas?

idk, just thinking about how he sucks at the beginning of the year when we play run and gun.

where's senstroll with a heat map of shots when you need him...

I was pointing out why he had worse playoff numbers, so you don't have to use that stat anymore cause there was a reason other than the 2000 shots.
It's a stupid arguemwnt, he likely would have the same numbers if he played 6 different teams.

Could be.
Andersen is better this year.
Our D...although not great....is better this year. Hainsey could be a stud in the playoffs.
Our forward group is also better this year.

The team is better overall. No reason that cant correlate to better results. Like we're seeing in the standings now.

I understand the point you are trying to make...but you are not including the fact that the team could shut things down a little bit more in the playoffs or maybe Andersen simply plays better when facing more shots.

How many teams win the Stanley Cup every year? Is it possible for a goalie who faces less than 2000 shots against to struggle in the playoffs?
