I'm suggesting those teams would of upped his value to pretty much that at 1 year less if he hit the market... Even with his injuries, what do you think he would go for if he was a FA on July 1st?
- obie

After the season he just had? Most likely less than 10.5M.

This being said, it's easier to say now than 1 year ago when he could have just as easily have another great season.

Yea, getting into the "ifs" and "buts"... UFAs really hit it big because multiple teams raising the bar and there's no doubt in my mind that number would of reached 10 and beyond, despite the injuries... And maybe he wouldn't be so "injured" at the moment if he didn't have a contract for next year...

I really cannot believe he'd call it a season if he's not really injured.

Same thing with all these rumors early on this season, I just can't accept the team would allow something so goddamn idiotic.

They haven't said he's out for the season yet anyway, have they?

To be honest, I believe it would be for the best if they could find a taker, it wouldn't be impossible but the return would be much less than most fans would expect... There's a good to great starter somewhere in Lindgren or Mcniven, there's a better chance of both becoming good NHL goalies than there is they both fail

At this point the team is out of it. Its best to let him get 100% and not risk long-term problems that don't need to happen. Even if he is at 98% but his little toe is soar from knocking into the coffee table, sit him. Helps the tank too since he is the type of guy that out of nowhere can turn it on and look unbeatable for long stretches.

Are you expecting someone stupid enough to defend the Marc Bergevin idiot show? I said it the second that contract was signed it was a mistake. I feel they overpaid immediately for no real possible benefit down the line.

Oddly enough I agree it was a mistake but I disagree it was an overpayment

Fair enough.

You’d rather he be traded?

As of now the only true benefit of having him there is he could be used as leverage to lure JT to sign... And that's not knocking his abilities or him personally at all! So yeah, trading him could land the team several valuable assets going forward while having not 1 but 2 guys who look poise to take over in the near future

"You have continued to rave about MTL's brass and their ability to scout and draft great talent. Here is a link to look at MTL's draft record. You tell me how great they are. Many misses in the first 2 rounds which the occasional good late pick does not make up for."

Last year they had 2nd rd picks for the first time in 3 drafts and did well with Brook and Ikonen at 56-58.

Last 4 1st rd picks are Poehling (25), Sergachev (9), Juulsen (26), and Scherbak (26).

2nd rdrs the last time they drafted (2013) were DLR, Fucale (meh), and Lehkonen.

From 2013 on, outside of the first 2 rounds they had Mete, Bitten, Primeau, Fleury, Reway, Evans, Addison.

Not sure why you think thats not good? Many of these guys have(or had) pretty good potential. Sure there are some bad picks but we could look at almost every team and say that too.

- Brandon Smillie

The problem Brandon is that out of all the players listed above only one, Sergachev, is a high ceiling player (I consider that to be a top line/top pairing player). And considering that he was a top 10 pick and is no longer with the organization, I don't really want to give too much credit to Bergy & co. on that one.

To me, last year's draft is too early to call. Two of those players did play in the WJC, but neither really stood out. You remain much higher on Poehling than any other hockey blogger/analyst I've read. He lacks offensive finish and probably is a #2 Centre at best. Which isn't terrible for where he was drafted, I'll admit.

The rest of the players listed above do not have a high probability of being impactful players. Even Mete, Juulsen and Scherbak, who I like, probably max out as 2nd pairing/line players. Hoping for more is optimistic to a high degree. And I base this on the fact that no MTL player made Hockey News' list of top 100 players under 21, or TSN's list of top 50 NHL affiliated prospects this year.

I base my judgement on this organization on two things. 1) We are not close to a cup in year 6 of this management. 2) We do not have any prospects projected to have big contributions in the immediate future. Our retool/rebuild seems dependant on winning the lottery and drafting Dahlin and convincing Tavares to sign as an FA. Both long shots.

PS. You gave Timmins a free pass on this one. He's been in the scouting department for 14 years and drafts 2008-2011 are horrendous save for Gally
