Agreed. I wouldn't do it this summer, I would wait one more year. One year of him with hopefully an influx of youth and see what comes from it. If things are better than expected then maybe you keep him. But I wouldn't bank on it, then trade him either at the next deadline or next offseason. Hoping Mittlestadt and Nylander force their way onto the team next year and hoping they can get some good experience and hoping that takes us from 30th to maybe 20th. It's a lot of hoping, it's all I have to hope for right now.

How is waiting for a better offer setting the bar high? If there was no offer before and no offer now that's not setting the bar high, that's waiting to see what is out there. Would you have been happier if he traded Kane for a conditional 1st, a prospect, and a 4th in December rather than February? Would that have made it a good trade?
