Vrbata scored 31 goals the year before , they had all year to move him . Why was Hamhuis late? More indecision by Canuck management. - VANTEL

Semantics. It did happen.
As for Edler i say pressure him.
NTC’s are not unbreakable.
Do this and who here would give JB credit for big balls? I respect a GM who honours past & present contracts & llayets will too.
Does not mean if he needs to crack eggs to make an omelette it stops him.
My apologies Vantel i regress 😜😂 - Nighthawk

Dan Murphy: (late afternoon yesterday) There had been no serious calls to the Canucks about defenseman Chris Tanev.
Dan Murphy: Forward Thomas Vanek is likely trade option B or C for some teams that are looking for wingers.

This is why people want Vanek gone. Could play out the same way with him if they re-sign him instead and he regresses next year. |

I doubled check TSN's trade bait board. Vanek is now #10. I'd say he's worth at least a 2nd round pick. As seen from last year Vanek has a stigma attached to him. What I would really like is Jacob Larsson and a 4th from Anaheim. - manvanfan
Sounds good to me 👍👍
As for enigma that too is Nash |

Kane is not a piece a rebuilding team should sign. LE is bad enough. We should get cheap stop gaps that can allow our guys to develop, but can also be sent down if those guys deserve roster spots. MDZ should be traded at TDL next year. Gagner can be traded whenever, hell I would retain a mil and trade him now if we could. We should give ourselves cap space to take on deals.
I would trade LE to OTT for Bobby Ryan and a 2nd if he waives. LE actual salary is much lower than Ryans so Melnyk saves money, it only costs us an xtra 1.25m in cap space and same contract length. If need be Bobby's contract can be bought out as well. And we get an extra 2nd. THAT is using our cap space right IMO. - Retinalz
I know most of the Kane fans half heartedly joke about him being part of the Canuck. We would be shocked if it ever happened. I wouldn't mind him on a 4 year deal but I have 0 expectations it would happen |

Whenever someone mentions the Sedins resigning, I always think of this angle:
They said they wanted to wait until the off seasons to make a decision about their future - i think its mainly because they don't want to let the media circus focus on that and distract the team, which is fair and pretty classy.
I think the Sedins know their time is coming to and end - they can't keep up anymore. I just can't see them doing the whole "farewell tour" last contract.
I think without them coming back theres still lots of guys to "insulate" the kids.
(frank) what do I know - they'll probably sign 3, 1 year deals and glory pig their way out |

A player of his skill set for free is always worth a look. My Q is will he sign for a friendly hometown contract? If so then other assets can be moved out for picks or prospects. More depth we can use.

Why would you think they aren't trying to make trades? i'd say that given their position in the standings, that they are.
I am ok with Guddy signing, as i don't think they got an offer that they found satisfactory. i don't know what that offer threshold is/was.
only Vantel knows. - dbot
You saw the pic. Clearly it means Jim has not called or talked to anyone. He even had time to shop for socks.

More than they are now? - A_SteamingLombardi
No, not at all. But every canuck GM left under dubious circumstances.
Images that stick in my memory:
1. Quinn with Messier
2. Burke's presser where he throws the owner under the bus over the bertuzzi contract
3. Nonis with Patrick White
4. Gillis with Torts
5. JB with Miller
For me these were/are harbingers of disaster.

Burrows waived for a 2 year extension and Hanson was MTC, Edler is a full NTC he doesn't have to give JB a list at all. - A_SteamingLombardi
I wouldn’t ask him for a list, I would give him a list of destinations that you had potential deals with (like Burrows last year). I would frame it like this: “If you want to play additional years in the league, consider this a trial run in a new city, with a new organization. If you dont’t like it you will only have invested one season (and a bit if it were tomorrow) and can then go into UFA knowing where you don’t want to play. But, if it does work out (Tampa - Cup etc), you have an opportunity to negotiate an extension with them and avoid changing addresses or being stuck in an undesirable location for the duration of whatever contract you sign.” |

Our defense needs work, but we have strength in our prospect pool at forward, some guys looks like locks. Demko is showing that he will be a solid goaltender. 3 years is not unrealistic. TL needs to go, Vanek needs to be traded, Hutton needs to be traded. Sedins need to retire, Benning is not the guy to put it together, but i think he will get us the pieces. He will be fired before his contract is up, and we ill have an amazing prospect pool to work with. Tanev can be traded at next years TDL, unless we get a big offer now, or in he off season.
The fans that do not see any bright spots in our future are morons. Boeser and Bo are already showing very well in the NHL. 1st line production from both of them. JV is starting to show that he will be a good 3rd liner, could still possibly be a 2nd liner as the 3rd guy on the line. EP is dominating the SHL right now, Lind has been great, OJ is looking better and better. Gaudette has been looking great. We have a good future, we just need few more pieces and for current ones to develop. 3 years is not unrealistic to start being a playoff team again. - Retinalz
Too rational. We're you born out of province like me?

Sure
But his rep of being lazy defensively, not a big game player, slow, old, etc is why Nash is worth way more.
If his production slows next year then there won’t be much interest, especially if he gets a limited NTC. |

So why can't Benning do that? is he not allowed to? does he even know how to start the conversation? or did Edler give him a nice pair of socks to take his mind off the subject? - A_SteamingLombardi
It's definitely one of his faults.

Nash i like but disappears in the PO’s also
Nash can score maybe but not much else.

I agree with the first part of your sentence, but I do not believe idiots are running any team in the NHL. Yes people have different skill sets, but so called idiots get weeded out (Milbury, McGuire) not extended. - Makita
Milbury was a GM between 95 and 2006 and coached for a long time as well.
McGuire was only was a head coach for 6 months.
Doug MacLean is one of the worst GM's in history and served between 98 and 2007. But he also led the Panthers to the Stanley Cup finals one year.... Sometimes it takes a long time to weed out the idiots sometime it takes years and years of incompetence.
