not gonna lie, I like him more after this picture. Burke/Gillis/Nonis would never even dare to look at those socks.
- Nucker101

His wife or daughter bought him those socks for Christmas.

You have a frank and difficult conversation with the players one on one. You thank them for their contribution but let them know that they are not part of the future plans of the organization (as players). You offer them an opportunity to continue their playing careers on their terms by accepting a trade to another organization who is in a better position for both player and team to succeed.

I said exactly the same thing in the preseason about Edler but not as eloquent as you have just said. Hardball at times is needed & can lead to being ruthless. 👍

Our defense needs work, but we have strength in our prospect pool at forward, some guys looks like locks. Demko is showing that he will be a solid goaltender. 3 years is not unrealistic. TL needs to go, Vanek needs to be traded, Hutton needs to be traded. Sedins need to retire, Benning is not the guy to put it together, but i think he will get us the pieces. He will be fired before his contract is up, and we ill have an amazing prospect pool to work with. Tanev can be traded at next years TDL, unless we get a big offer now, or in he off season.
The fans that do not see any bright spots in our future are morons. Boeser and Bo are already showing very well in the NHL. 1st line production from both of them. JV is starting to show that he will be a good 3rd liner, could still possibly be a 2nd liner as the 3rd guy on the line. EP is dominating the SHL right now, Lind has been great, OJ is looking better and better. Gaudette has been looking great. We have a good future, we just need few more pieces and for current ones to develop. 3 years is not unrealistic to start being a playoff team again.

Demko has looked good and bad this year at times . Don't pencil him in as a true starter . He will take time when he reaches the Canucks .

God damn, that's an expensive shutdown line
- Nucker101

It costs a lot for a stat line of 200+ GA.

That's damn good shutdown.

You can poo poo signing Kane but it is retarded to bring in two 38 year old players with full NMC to a rebuild team . It is beyond dumb.

Even if they come in at 2 mil each that is 4 mil that could be better spent

Same ol same ol eh

I don’t disagree other than we don’t have anyone ready yet to step in nor UFA’s worth a plugged nickle to replace them.

So why can't Benning do that? is he not allowed to? does he even know how to start the conversation? or did Edler give him a nice pair of socks to take his mind off the subject?

I’d prefer to walk away from the Sedins + avoid big UFA signings until the next core starts to show signs that they’re ready to carry the team.

Last thing I want is another big NTC contract on the books

That's horsesh1t.

Vanek came in this year at 2 mil and can be traded. He is currently in second in scoring on the team. Stop gulping the Canucks kool aid. There are contracts like that each and every year

If you arent happy with mediocrity then why not embrace change? You have vanek who was acquired to be flipped, yet our fanbase talks of resigning, mentoring, etc. You sign stop gaps, but then talk about resigning vets. I have heard people talk about the cost od re-acquiring hansen ffs.
- Codes1087

Pretty sure they were joking. You need to understand that the change you often talk about is the change that has gotten the Oilers to where they are now. We have pieces that we can sell, but we also have pieces we can't. We all know Edler and the Twins won't waive. Edler is possible at the next TDL if management says they won't re-sign him, but even then it is unlikely. Tanev should be traded, but we are in no rush. If he can stay healthier next season, he could have more value at the TDL then, rather than now. IF he isn't getting his value then don't trade him for the sake of trading him. Sutter should stay for now as he will be needed to shelter rookies in the coming 2 seasons, EP and Gaudette will be better players long term for it.
Vanek and Hutton are currently the only realistic pieces we can trade for value, MAYBE Baerschi as well.

He did do it with Burrows & Hansen in their final year of a contract. Give it some time.

Anyone who believes we are 3 years away from being competitive, or a few pieces away from competitive. Anyone who thinks trevor has the slightest clue into anything management related. Anyone who thinks we should keep vanek past 12:01 tomorrow. Anyone who is ok with mediocrity. Any of the above. Fair?

JB signed UFA plugs this year to be placeholders. No big UFA’s for me not named JT or EK. As for the Sedins i am indifferent til a prospect steps up. AG?

I’m like the placeholders strategy to buy time for development, but not signing ones for 3+ years.

Sedins are only useful if spoon fed easy minutes + PP time.

Watch how many times a line has a decent shift in the offensive zone and during the next whistle in the o-zone , it’s the Sedins hopping over the boards. I’d rather see younger players utilized like that.

Horvat and Sutter insulate the Sedins lol, you can argue how effectively they do it, but that’s how they’re used.

I believe any team can be three years away from being competitive as long as idiots aren't running the show
- VANTEL

I agree with the first part of your sentence, but I do not believe idiots are running any team in the NHL. Yes people have different skill sets, but so called idiots get weeded out (Milbury, McGuire) not extended.
