Yes BUT... all the players they gave up are HORRIBLE and the picks will never amount to anything.
But also, NYR fleeced Boston and got a really good roster player, a grinder, a TOP D prospect and some top quality picks. - markmark
Honestly, I could have appreciated getting Nash for Spooner and a pick or something... Hell I could live with Lindgren being in the deal.
Throwing a first round pick on top of that is just silly. |

Yeah, the 2nd rd pick the Leafs gave up will turn into Roman Josi. The 1st rd pick the Bruins gave up will end up being Alexander Daigle. It's already been decided by UG - PatC80
Well the draft isn't a gamble like trying to win the cup remember? |

Probably (frank)s up the Kane trade today, Buffalo is probably saying "look what Boston gave up but give me more"
It's stupid when teams overlay because than other teams automatically think they should overpay for their players too |

The Leafs have so much money to put into their scouts that there is no gamble whatsoever. Gaurenteed Josi like player for the leafs pick |

For sure, after tonight they really don't have a tough test for the rest of the season - Santo_44
Yep... gives Matthews time to recover..No need to rush back.. |

There is next to no risk in this transaction for the Rangers. They’re not even sacrificing offence given that Spooner has outproduced Nash over the last three seasons (.573 points per game compared to .545), albeit while largely being deployed in more favourable offensive situations.

I'm telling ya, this is gonna end up like Vanek when the Habs traded for him a few years back.
A prospect and a 2nd for Kane. |

I'd give him rest too, home ice advantage is meh
However, if they win tonight they have a real chance at catching TB with their schedule. A Columbus or Isles 1st round would be a bit better |

See.. Spooner for Nash is an overpay... Now Spooner, Beleksy, Lindgren, a 1st and a 7th... That seems like a yuuge overpay. Good for the Rangers. |

Don't worry about Plek, he will do his job, he's a pro, not much offense left but he will work hard. |

Price aside, I read somewhere that Spooner is deployed at like 80%+ offensive zone starts.
Still doesn't make much sense to me though if they're trying to get a better two way player... they're already 31 in GA.... you'd think they'd spend those assets on upgrading offensive firepower... |

I have faith in Leafs management and scouting as much as the next guy, but this idea that because of Hunter et al, lower round picks are somehow so much more valuable doesn't make any sense to me. They are still low percentage. And they still aren't trading away all their picks. It seems to me they are striking a balance between being competitive now, while still having things coming through the pipeline, which is what you want to do. - Zezel
There has been absolutely no evidence whatsoever that Dubas and Hunter are good at finding gems deep in the draft.
I'm not saying this to be a negative Nelly - those picks may someday pan out.
But to date, absolutely no indication whatsoever that they have any magical formula to draft good guys late.
None. |
