- ToMaLe

Goats been up...why not Aaltonen if he's that good? Conspiracy I'll bet.

For those against the 2nd round pick. Here's a good set of stats over the course of 2 decades. 11% chance on average for the pick to become a meaningful player.

Picks are good but it's a crapshoot anyway.

Yep, and when you have a young core as the Leafs. Picks are even less worth to the Leafs

That's the "average" meaning all teams, good and bad. Doesn't really take into account that the Leafs could throw as much money at scouting and drafting as they want and get better results than 11% and just two years ago they drafted Dermott so they're doing better now than they once did.

And even if it was 11%, I'd still take that over 27 games of the turtleneck wearing sack of Hab poop that is Plekanec.

You're hoping for a miracle for an 11% chance the 2nd round pick turns out to be Bergeron.
- Aaron_85

We cant hope the leafs can go on a run in the playoffs but he can hope the Leafs draft a franchise player in the 2nd round. And a very late one at that.

He's still a Marlie - so maybe we'll get to see if your are right. My guess he never sees the NHL.
- Woderwick

Lol its his first year. He's adapting and he's done a fairly good job imo. He's been really good as of late. Unfortunately he was dropped on his head and got knocked out last night. Most likely has a concussion so hopefully that doesn't mess with his development down the road.

When our young stars get their big contracts, we need these young draft picks to make our club on entry level salaries, cant go throwing them away like candy. High picks are gold in a cap era.

Look at the percentage for picks from 50-61...they are pretty brutal

There's is a reason you are posting on HB and not a GM

Hitting on one pick could be luck as much as improved scouting. Bracco and Korshov havent proven anything to say they will ever be NHLer's. I have high hope for Grundstrom but until he dominates somewhere or cracks the roster it means nothing.

who is not hoping the Leafs go on a long playoff run? I want to this year and next year and the year after that.....drafting is the way to do it...unless you loved the Burke years. Pleks is not going to put us over the top lol

Fair point that they will need young and cheap guys to fill out the roster. Here's a list of 15 to 20 not including any drafted this coming year or next. They will find the guys within to do as you say. https://thehockeywriters....e-leafs-top-20-prospects/

Also if picks were like gold then why didn't Nash or Pleks only cost a draft pick?

its a depth move. In case any centre goes down now we actually have an NHL centre to replace them with. They didn't go out and trade their next 3 first round pics to JT

They drafted them. The core is one player away from being set

Matthews Marner Kadri Rielly Nylander Zaitzev Andersen etc

Enough of this hording draft picks. They have their core set. They want to try and win every year. They still have 7 draft picks and a 2nd still this year. Calm down, they traded a draft pick to help them try and win. It's the way they will be running the TDL for the next decade and get used to it.

I know what an average is. However that's over 20+ drafts. That's over 4000 draft picks. Specifically, 600 second round picks. That's not a small sample size no matter how you look at it.

Dermott has only played maybe two dozen games. You can't make any for sure judgement calls on him. Jury is still out.
