Leafs currently on pace for 106 points - which would be their highest total ever, beating 2003-04's 103 points.

Hey guys.
First of all, I think the return for Plekanec was just fine... I was hoping for a 2nd rounder alone so... while I'm not the biggest Valiev or Rychel fan... I guess they both could use a change of scenery... anything coming from these two is bonus.
Enjoy Plek, great guy and great player who simply lost a step over a time.
As for Baun.... well let's just say I forgot he existed so don't get your hopes up about him.
Cheers! |

When i first saw the trade i was like I was ok with the specs that were going but the 2nd should of been a 3rd or 4th. I then saw the 50% salary retention and i was like awww thats why it was a 2nd. Without the retention it would of been more like Rinat Valiev, Kerby Rychel,4th for Pleks,Braun. Then Braun cancels out Rychel which makes it Valiev,4th for Pleks. Breaking it down my way makes it so much better. |

The only reason salary was retained was for the deal to actually work. Plekanec is a UFA at the end of the season and Habs have plenty of cap space.
The second rounder is the real return here for the Habs. |

I wonder if the retention is to set up another move, or for LTIR/bonus wizardry. |

Scabs, settle this for us please. Will Plekanec be able to keep up with the Leafs forwards or is his skating so poor that he will slow down Kapanen and Komarov? |

Good take.
Rychel and Valiev had no future in Toronto, both well down the depth chart. When I saw Valiev on the Marlies a few times I was wholly unimpressed.
A rental Plekanec for a second seems like the kind of deal you expect at the deadlne. Both teams did OK with this one. |
