right now, with about 90 minutes left until the deadline, TSN is interviewing a guy who got traded for a bus 35 years ago in juniors

well, they can't sign him to an extension until July 1st no matter what, so dont worry there
- jimbo83

I would be worried, because not only the Flyers will be interested in McDonagh, but also other Eastern, and specifically Metro Div. rivals will be if he is not traded or re-signed by next season's deadline, starting locally, and especially in New Jersey. Them more so, due to being in that bidding war with us last summer for Shatty, when Shatty's team discount due to his desire first to play for his hometown rooted for Rangers as a youth, won out in the end.
This time, they would have to win out on McDonagh if he hit free agency next summer, along with Grabner this summer, if the Devils should only play hardball with him.

That's the one big word, in "HOPE", with him being for now under the Devils control. Had the Nash deal been completed first, I don't think that Grabner would have been dealt to the Devils, with the prospect in part received in Rykov, not being the Rangers first few choices demanded, plus having no guarantee he would even play here in America. The exception could be if Shestyorkin does decide to play here when his KHL contract expires, or if those Kovalchuk rumors of him really wanting to play for the Rangers are indeed accurate.
In addition, had the Nash deal gone down first, Gorton may have remained more firm in his demands overall for Grabner, to the point that he still may not have been dealt as of under 2 hours prior to the deadline. He may have received the prospect or two earlier that he had initially requested for, if not a #1 pick from the Devils for him.
Now the "HOPE" is that the Devils will not either first extend him while they can, or after the season become involved in a bidding war for Grabner, as they were for Shatty last summer.

Big question is WHY would Grabs/Nash come back to NY? For a Cup?

Only way one of them comes back is if they win cup w/ Boston or Devils (nope)

I get they have family and all, but I just don't see it

D.D.'s small enough to fit inside a piece of the baggage to get on the plane.

So our back to back 50 point 24 year old that gets jerked all over the lineup is the problem. Gotcha.
- nyrangers9479

Is 50 pts supposed to get me all warm and fuzzy for a top 15 overall pick? Who btw has 1 playoff goal in his life

You hated Stepan who had pretty close to the same production but actually knew how to play defense

Don’t use his salary either because Miller is gonna get a raise, which is all the more the reason to deal him

I rest my case

I think it is unlikely as well. But, it's not impossible if (1) they really like New York; and (2) the Rangers rebuild is going to quicker than we expect. I can see ways where that can happen.

I only mentioned Grabner, who had expressed a month or two ago, that he would be willing to discuss a new contract with the Rangers, up to any time prior to free agency. He also said he liked playing here for them, in making many friends as well.
As for Nash, we already know how much he and his family love to reside in N.Y. City. So the possibility exists for him to return as a UFA at a much lower rate than his $7.8M.

Miller isn't going to get anywhere near 6.5 with a full NTC that kicks in.

Even without him, there are ways that they can be competitive quicker while just replenishing the prospect base with a boatload of picks and prospects.

I get it...I was thinking same things a few days ago, but I just feel urge to win cup will overshadow family happiness It's crazy, but wouldn't you want to win a cup over making sure your wife likes the shopping near your home?

Against you or Tomtanker, it's very easy sometimes. But then sometimes it's not.
