Ek is an idiot, but I can see NYR fishing for a bargain. Somehow McD trade went from only if NYR gets blown away with offer, to it being a forgone conclusion. Is it the worst thing in world to pay him after next year? He will probably get 6 mill per...no? His points are down so he ain't going to get top $$ especially if it goes to arbitration

Once it leaks that management is actively shopping him, it’s tough to keep him around.

It’s like if your boss at work says they’re interviewing people to replace you, but if they can’t get anyone they like you’ll get to keep you job. Would you just forget about that and go on like nothing happened?

Are the Rangers rebuild and tanking? Guess I was right thn.

They do not have to trade McDonagh right now, unless being presented a "can't refuse" offer, which is why they haven't done so yet, with him also having one more season remaining on his contract. They can do so prior to, or during the NHL Draft, if not at the latest at NEXT season's deadline, with above to top defensive minded d'men in shorter availability always than forwards.
In receiving what they did heist wise just one day before the deadline for Nash, I'm sure they would be able to receive at minimum, a little lesser in a heist % rate for McDonagh as a rental one year from now as well, should that be the case for him.

Depends if they were going to give me close to 7 per, they could hate me all they want.

Yes, they know this is a business. They are getting paid much $$$ , so yeah, I think they are expected to go on playing, especially, the situation that NYR is in. If they resigned him next year, it wouldn't be a horrible thing...would it?

Seriously, if we don't see a change in AVs approach the remainder of the season then I think he will be gone at season's end

You're talking about a show that was on in the 70's.
