Habs deal Pleks to TML for a 2nd, Rychel, and prospect.
- jmatchett383

As of the info in this link (which is over a year old), the Habs haven't traded with the Leafs since 2008....I would have thought it was longer than that, for some reason:

That depends on what the definition of effective is. If what I think you're saying is that it's not likely that you can be a true cup contender with MacDonald as a #3, I would completely agree with that. However he is playing effectively in his role with a rookie partner on a team that is near the top of it's division. His cap hit really isn't a hindrance for the Flyers moving forward. They have plenty of flexibility moving forward and his contract, though overpaid as you state, less and less each year, is not an issue moving forward.

Just because you keep saying it doesn’t make it true. MacDonald is not a top 4 defenceman. Regardless that the Flyers are in decent cap his cap hit is 2 million too much....and still has too many years. It’s not like he’s going to get better. The numbers don’t lie....the eye test doesn’t lie. These type of contracts effect everything they try to do. It’s not a hindrance today because their not a buyer...but it’s purely clueless to think this still won’t have repercussions in the coming.

I would be very angry if they trade any D prospects right now. If those guys turn into players they are worth way more then veteran rentals at the trade deadline. Taylor Hall deal example #1.

Sympathy for Jordan Staal and family. I heard their infant daughter died. Awful.

OMG, that is terrible, condolences to the Staal family.

Someone please explain to me why Boston continues to make terrible hockey decisions? That might be the worst trade I have seen in some time.

Hexy, get in the phone with them now!

Of course they can go with two defenseman on the 2nd unit. Why not? Morin is also a no go. No way.
- MJL

You wouldn’t even start a convo on hjalmarsson if they ask for Morin?

yup

On both sides, any response IS A RESPONSE! And passive aggressive sub-posts are also responses. How about just franking ignoring each other for a while?

I wouldn't. Hjalmarsson is a good defender, but has little offensive upside and is on the wrong side of 28.

I personally saw Boston as the favorite to come out of the east before the trade. I think they just got stronger as a team. Really other than the first round pick, they really didn't give up much. Boston is in a position where they should gamble and go for it.

You're sure to be less frustrated by a guy who makes $7.25m and has 22 points.
- Feanor

Can you have a conversation without being a Richard? Just once, is this humanly possible for you?

We've made deals to this point that I don't agree with regardless of the mindset. We have a lot of passers on this team and not enough pure shooters. The closest thing we did have, we traded last summer. Next in line, Wayne Simmonds who isn't so much a pure shooter but The closest thing we have to a goal scorer. I love what Sean Couturier is doing but that goal production isn't the same as the start of the season.

There are a lot of players I'm willing to part without side of Weise and Lehtera. I don't think Jordan Weal a huge piece. Michael Raffl works hard but I don't think he makes or breaks us.

I suppose we could stick with bridge gap players and continue to trade the talented ones away. It would nice to add a new element. I suppose Boston couldn't possibly be good now that they added Rick Nash.
