HMMMMM!!!
When i was saying on this very website that I hope Alt gets picked up when he went through waivers earlier this season i was told how i was foolish for this line of thinking and how he was needed for depth. - ggunky
Alt was placed on waivers for the sole reason of needing to be assigned to the Phantoms by the NHL trade deadline to be eligible for the AHL playoffs. Not because the Flyers don't want him as a player anymore. Unless he is claimed it most likely will be a paper move and recalled again. Unless the Flyers acquire another defenseman or call up a different player. |

They are so close.
You can see it. They aren't perfect, but you can freaking see the finish line
My opinion: You don't really need to do anything crazy for a scoring forward right now. If someone gets hurt, it's a tough break, but it happens. No team is perfect. Injuries happen.
But would I do Sanheim, Myers, the STL first and our 2019 first for Erik Karlsson? And consider TK if I thought I could get by?
Maybe I would - AllInForFlyers

idk man
i think Oskar could have jumped in the line up sooner but i'm not mad about them keeping him in the A for a little while. i honestly did not expect to be in any sort of heavy playoff race this year and was only worried about developing the kids but here we are in the thick of things. i think development is fluid and always changing and not just some static thing where every player succeeds the same way.
i also smoke a lot of weed and am mostly thinking out loud so please, at least put some lipstick on before you crucify me - Mordecai

Yeah, agreed. I still think they view Alt as a good asset.
I do think they might want someone with more experience to be the 7th d, but I don't feel as if the org has soured on Alt. |

Forget Karlsson. Don't want him. Don't need him.
Hartman, on the other hand, is a bit more interesting. |

Erik Karlsson will be 28 at the end of May.
What Ottawa SHOULD do is build around EK. You don't just find guys like him. Unless some dumbass team overpays greatly, Ottawa is making fools of themselves. |

Very true.
I just think it's (frank)ed up that teams dream of getting a d-man like Karlsson, and they are trying to trade him at age 28, rather than build around him. |

Why would you do this deal in all honesty. The flyers are not hurting for offense from the defense. If your ever going to trade Sanheim or Myers I would look for a scoring winger and look for G's replacement.
This is a salary cap NHL so please stop with the wet dream trades. - bird_dog_pa
LOL
Look, I don't mind people disagreeing with the price I would pay. But let's not pretend that a) I don't know that the league is a salary cap league, and b) that if the Flyers wanted to do Erik Karlsson, they couldn't do it without blinking, salary-wise, for next season.
Filppula and Read come off the books after this season: That's $5 + $2.6, minus the difference between what the Flyers save for having Read in the minors.
Karlsson makes $6.5 next season. So that's done.
The year after that, Lehtera's $4.7 will definitely go and Simmonds' $3.975 could go. So could Raffl's $2.35. So could Weal's $1.75.
Yeah, you have to pay Provorov. That's not inconsequential. All those players I just listed have to be replaced.
But because you got Ghost and Couturier on extremely team-friendly contracts with term, you could do Karlsson and not throw yourself over a cliff, the same way that the Pens do Crosby/Malkin/Kessel/Letang.
It's all about whether you want to do it, not whether you are having a wet dream.
If you don't, you don't. You could if you wanted to, and most importantly, somebody is going to |

In other EK news, I checked in on Evander Kane's numbers.
They ain't bad. He's only 26. Unless Buffalo is giving him away, I'm not interested, but I've always liked his playing style.
61 games, 20 goals, 20 assists, -14
I know some here think he's a bad lockerroom guy, but I think this lockerroom could handle Kane.
But like I said, I'm not really interested in adding a piece like Evander Kane. |

The Flyers already have Ghost who is a similar player and Provy who is not a slouch offensively in his second year and will only get better.
Then Sanheim is ready so why honestly pay 8 mil a year for EK? It would be one thing if the flyers had a d corp full of Haags and Morins.
Who is going to replace Giroux in a few years? Until Frost and other prospects prove they are NHLers I wouldn't trade a first round pick for a luxury. Imo your idea of a trade hurts the flyers not helps.

See, that's different -- it's fine that you disagree with acquiring the player.
You took a shot at whether or not I understand how the cap works, and that was entirely different. |

It's not just all about whether you want to do it, it''s also about if it makes sense to do it. Looking at all the factors, it doesn't in my opinion.

Fitting EK onto the team with a huge salary might be doable but doesn't mean it works ie. Being a hindrance keeping valuable core players. |

LOL Everyone knows that wasn't the debate. You said you would rather have Read and that they were basically the same
Nobody on this board said "sign Oshie." - AllInForFlyers
In his defense, I started the Read and Oshie were basically the same. Even though this isn't true, this was started before Read tried to play through injury and was still a productive two way player. |

We should pick up Chris Stewart off waivers and dump Wiesel in the minor. I'm pretty sure Stewart and simmonds are good friends and on the wild blog it says he's a good locker room guy. Could help the 4th line bring some grit. Leir- fillp- Stewart |

Minny won and the Ducks scored with 10 seconds left to get a point(lost in shootout). Blues lost 6th straight. odds of getting a top 15 pick just went up. |

I think it's in bad taste and less than classy when someone bashes someone else because they like a player and would like to see them to play for the Flyers.
AllInForFlyers wants Erik Karlsson. I don't see a fit. I think Ghost does all the same things but he likes the guy. That doesn't ruin my day.
When I say I would take Bobby Ryan, or Evander Kane or Rick Nash or James van Riemsdyk, I'm saying I want something more competitive than what we have. Jordan Weal and Michael Raffl are hard working players but they do not set the league on fire. I'm just tired of watching two players carry this team every night and sometimes more big names makes a team more watchable. More exciting. |
