You're dodging here. Answer the question. Teams that are in a drafting and development phase often turn to stop gap veteran players to fill a role on a team until a younger player is ready to take over. Patrick is taking a bigger piece of the pie now but it's clear that he needed a half a season or so to get stronger and get his legs back under him to the point now where he is becoming a far more effective player. If the Flyers didn't have Filppula, they would have had to push Patrick further or given the ice time to some other player. So if you wish Filppula wasn't here, it's a reasonable question to ask you who would've taken his ice time and how would it have affected the Flyers in the standings?

Or maybe if they gave Patrick more responsibility earlier he would have started playing the way he is sooner. Same could be said for Konecny. Nobody can answer that. So that argument doesn’t really hold water. Awful lot of what if’s, who would have’s to defend or detract from one player.

It just seems like strong chemistry and balance between the 3 players. Lindholm plays an effective game without the puck. Gets in on the forecheck, wins puck battles and occupies defenseman around the net. Voracek like to carry and possess the puck a lot and Patrick can make plays with the puck.

I couldn't believe he's under 200lbs and plays that strong of a game.

Ottawa game was an eye opener to see what could become of that line.

It was clear that Patrick was struggling with his skating and his leg strength earlier in the season due the injuries he sustained in juniors. I think it's far more likely that had they pushed Patrick earlier in the season it would have hurt him more than it helped him. As far as Konecny is concerned, last year and in the beginning of this season, Konecny still had puck management issues and especially last year played too much of a junior game offensively. Too much individual play out of the structure of the offense. He gradually improved those areas of his game and it started to click for him which is when the coaching staff promoted him to the top line. They made him a more effective player in my opinion by how they handled him and his usage and linemates. Possible that Konecny could've done it sooner but I like that they made him clean up his fundamentals before giving him the prize so to speak.

Why does everyone still wear cages in woman's hockey?

And can we get Weise to wear one so I don't have to see his ugly Bojack face?

Good thing the Flyers organization taught Lindblom everything he needed to know about hockey....where would he be with out their guidance and development.

What are the chances that Simmonds would get hurt at the exact same time that Lindblom proved ready?

Actually they can. Patrick was obviously not at peak capability when the season started coming off the dual core surgeries.

idk man

i think Oskar could have jumped in the line up sooner but i'm not mad about them keeping him in the A for a little while. i honestly did not expect to be in any sort of heavy playoff race this year and was only worried about developing the kids but here we are in the thick of things. i think development is fluid and always changing and not just some static thing where every player succeeds the same way.

i also smoke a lot of weed and am mostly thinking out loud so please, at least put some lipstick on before you crucify me

I agree with all of this. Lindblom's game away from the puck was NHL caliber in the pre-season. They wanted him to become more than a 3rd line checking/forechecking winger and they wanted to give him time to adjust to NA game and improve the speed he played at. They felt the best place for him to do that was in the AHL.

The Flyers are no doubt going to have some failures in player development and it's definitely different for every player but I believe in their methods and that it's better to overcook than rush a player.

I think they can make the Simmonds money work if need be....but is it smart ? I hope they keep him but that might not be what’s best going forward. (To move on )

I just don’t think we want him for 4 more years at a big #. And that’s probably what he deserves. At least $6-7 MM??

I am okay that they sent him down at the start, but it was clear that he was ready at least a month ago, if not two. Ultimately not a big deal, but it does show a reluctance to bring up players based on merit alone. It's annoying because of the players like Weise/Lehtera/Leier get time when there are clearly better options, ready to play in the NHL.

The worst part is the goul callup over him.

Don’t think we have enough roster spots. Wait. We waived 2 today. That works contract wise. Not sure about value.

As for every deal Hexy discusses, it depends on what we are giving up. Most of the deals I have heard discussed in here today are GROSS overpayments that the other team would jump at in a heartbeat.
