Today our top pair is fine, but the rest is suspect. Ghost is playing every bit as well as Karlsson is right now. But...depth. And yes please, let’s find a way to dump AMacs contract.

I agree that the Flyers need to upgrade their defense. The question is how should they do that. MacDonald's contract simply is not an issue. He is playing solid hockey for this team and they don't have cap issues.

Just spitballing here, but what if in a Kane deal it became 3 way with a cap floor team like Arz where we send a pick and Lethera contract that free's up 4.7 next year and with Flippula 5 mil coming off the books you don't necessarily have to view it at as a rental.Again, just spitballing here and yes I understand that your coming up on major salary raises for Provy etc in the next few years...
- nonpoint22
I think if hextall wants him he can work the salary in.The problem is what does he give up.I personally would like to see kane on this team but whats the price.Im not as high on morin like some here.I also think myers is made of glass.Sanheim is the one i wouldnt trade out of the 3.So i think the sabres would want 1 of those 3 plus a pick.

Float our 4th round pick for a depth guy otherwise go into the off season knowing the third pairing needs to be rebuilt either through trade free agency or internal promotion

I just don't see Hextall moving a combo of top prospects and first round picks right now when your goaltending heading into the playoffs is a streaky Petr Mrazek and 2 guys coming off significant injuries. It pretty much goes against everything Hextall believes in. At the end of the day, don't be surprised if he either just stands pat, or, at most, picks up a veteran depth Dman.

I agree, it s just fun to speculate because the team has reached a point where expectations should be raised. It's a credit to the core of the team who is playing at an elite level with Patrick, Laughton and Konency developing quickly. Also, Lindblom s first 2 games have been very quickly.

In my view there is no question that Travis Sanheim is going to help fill that large space between where our top pairing is and the rest of the defense is. Hagg should really be playing in a sheltered 3rd pair role as a rookie and is most likely long term going to be a solid 3rd pair level physical defender. I don't see any reason why this team should go out and trade a ton of assets to get Karlsson. He's a great player but I really think they should stay the course and let this team develop.

Yup. Maybe sanheim Morin both come up but split pairings. Sanheim - amac, Morin - hagg. Maybe they trade gudas and acquire a solid vet in a different deal than bring up 1 of the 2 rooks. Maybe we stay with gudas and let progression go and 1 the rooms comes up. Tons of possibility. But in my eyes it was has to be addressed as well as the 4th line in the offseason to have better depth moving forward. I think the forwards will mostly come internally with nak ghoul vecchione Martel lindblom among contention for nhl roles

Also, don't look past Myers making the team next year as a darkhorse. He's been quietly putting together a solid rookie AHL season.

I think that Martel unfortunately is going to loose out, simply based on what they have in the pipeline. He's considerably has cooled off, even before the injury. I also don't know if Goulbourne will get a contract offer.

I think you'll see something like this next season:

28-14-11
54-19-93
40-21-17 (if he doesn't get traded, but I do think he will)
12-Vec-NAK
22/20/15

If that is the case, hopefully they just waive and demote Weise and accept the fact that they (frank)ed up in signing him.

Simply not true...of course bad contracts limit teams abilities to make moves. MacDonald has been ok....solid ? That’s a stretch.....unfortunately for the Flyers, he is in their top 4, but that’s more a product of how poor Manning and Gudas have played in the last month.

Though overpaid, AMac would be fine in a 4/5 role. However, due to the fact that we just have no one better right now, he's being asked to be the #3 guy and that is just not a role that he can effectively fill.

I was saying this yesterday and going to say it again.

Giroux reminds me of G from 5 years ago. The play in the Habs game where he dropped thr puck into his skates then in stride kicked it forward. The ridiculous break away yesterday. Watching how fired up he is almost every play. Dominating on face offs and a plus 15 , I think I saw that last night.

Just an amazing year by G.

Could all be for naught if Bergeron's injury is serious. He was in a walking boot after their last game.

Hak's best move of the year was moving him to wing and moving Coots up to 1C.

I’d be shocked if Hextall does anything as well....they have depth...now unless he wants to start throwing around his first round picks or guys like Sanheim and Myers, then I don’t see the the Flyers as players either...none of those rentals really excite me.

With the way the current #1 powerplay is organized, if you get Karlsson do you have to tell Ghost he is no longer on PP1. That is crazy!

Ghost is better. What is crazy is telling Karlsson he is on PP2.

He has really had an Hart trophy worthy season. Along with some of the other guys having really great seasons I think the Flyers really can do some damage in the playoffs if the get the goaltending and can tighten up the d.....but Giroux really is the one stirring the drink.

I do think as Karlsson ages, he will still be very good. His skating won't fall off a cliff and he is a very smart dmen. Paul Coffey was a fantastic skater throughout his career. I can't write the Flyers can't use a Karlsson, but Ghost and Provy are already close to elite making the need not pressing. Also, I still believe Sanheim has the potential to get to that level. Get Amacs 5 million off the cap, then it becomes possible from a cap stand point.
- ravishingone

Remember a couple of years ago when all we talked about was how the Flyers needed a number one Dman? lol, now they have two hahaha.
