Weakens the team this year? How? Sanheim isn't up. Myers has never played a shift in the league. TK is another story but Karlsson makes up for that and more
Dude is a two-time Norris winner at 28 years old. Let's not overstate what we have in favor of what you get.
It's OK to like TK. Erik Karlsson is worthe TK and more - AllInForFlyers
Sure Karlsson is worth more than Konecny. He's not worth Konecny, Sanheim, Myers and two first round picks.

Chris Kelly, Max Talbots and Derek Roy have played more for team Canada than Claude Giroux. This is how unfair life is. |

Lehtera has played 44 games for the Flyers and has been a regular in the lineup for some time now.
What else do you have?

Claude is getting a Stanley Cup as Karmic retribution for the Team Canada nonsense he's been forced to endure. |

Patrick isn't gonna finish with 50-ish points. But he definitely looks like the player i thought he was, even when I wasn't worried about his slow start.
No one is right all the time. But if all we got is Patrick's rookie projection when if it were up to me, Val Filppula and Dale Weise wouldn't be here, welp, I'll take my track record over others |

I think it would be 1 of Sanheim or Myers and add in a Frost or Rubstov. |

Who would've taken a lot of those hard minutes and the ice time that Filppula has played if he wasn't here?

I think Laughton can be that 3C on maybe a cup winner, but I do need to see a bit more. Its the first year he's shown this kind of sustained play. Hopefully keeps it up and it isn't some Dale Weise in Montreal thing. - flyer_nutter
I think Laughton is a very good 4C. 3C is a stretch on a cup team |

I'm still very happy the Flyers didn't sign Oshie to an 8 year deal for 5.75M a year. I made the right call there.
What would you trade for Oshie?

"Somebody Not Named Val Filppula"
You like claiming Straw Men so much, that's a classic: Pretending that because the guy you have is better than anything else you could have done, simply because it can't be proven otherwise
Someone else would be here, instead of the declining player many of us specifically told you he was

Technically if you take his last 6-7 games he’s on “pace” to be a 50 point guy this year...so your not totally wrong....it’s all about how well you can manipulate stats and use them for your own argument round here....he’s going to be their best player 3 years from now, that everyone can get behind. |

LOL Everyone knows that wasn't the debate. You said you would rather have Read and that they were basically the same
Nobody on this board said "sign Oshie."

You're dodging here. Answer the question. Teams that are in a drafting and development phase often turn to stop gap veteran players to fill a role on a team until a younger player is ready to take over. Patrick is taking a bigger piece of the pie now but it's clear that he needed a half a season or so to get stronger and get his legs back under him to the point now where he is becoming a far more effective player. If the Flyers didn't have Filppula, they would have had to push Patrick further or given the ice time to some other player. So if you wish Filppula wasn't here, it's a reasonable question to ask you who would've taken his ice time and how would it have affected the Flyers in the standings?

I think a really good 3C is well within Laughton's skill set and what many of us envisioned when he got drafted.
Remember those days when some folks here wanted to ditch Couturier in favor of Laughton when Laughton was in juniors? |
