He’s reliable
Reliably mediocre
But yet reliable - BiggE
Filppula gets poop on and called bad a lot because he plays minutes he just can't play anymore and gets exposed. If he truly was relegated to "4th line duties" and the pk he wouldn't nearly get burned so much and would be much less noticeable (i.e. noticeably bad) out there.
8-12 ES minutes + pk is what he should be getting at this point in his career. Hak seems to have a bit of a love affair with him, which plays into his TOI being too high for a player of his caliber but they've also had injuries and a struggling Patrick/no Lindblom to slot in either. We'll see what his TOI looks like in these next few games and especially when Simmonds comes back (implying Lindblom stays up) |

I could definitely see him put in a role along the lines of what you described once its playoff time and if so that would be the perfect usage for him. With about 10-12 min a night max plus the pk Flip can excel in that role and be a really good contributor on the defensive side of things. |

Does Chris Stewart have anything left? Could he be an upgrade over Weise and/or Lehterä? He was also waived today. He’s also Simmonds’s close friend. - arichardson22
Oh boy. Then we definitely need to have him. |

Because Meltzer is in the flyer locker every day so he have to be polite and cordial even to the players he hates. |

Is Oduya and upgrade on Manning significantly have not seen him play much this season so not sure. If he is Hexy should try and put a claim in , no risk in picking up a depth d man for nothing at all. |

Hopefully. Like I said. That role would maximize his effectiveness. Right now he's in over his head |

I'm perfectly fine with filp. He's the amac of the forwards for me. Get rid of manning lehtera and Weise and I'll be down right giddy - Tfaehner

Agreed. I just wish they had a stronger option at 3C so that Filppula could see less ice time.
However, when compared to Dale Weise, Filppula is the 2nd coming of Rod Brindamour - BiggE
I think Patrick has to continue to grow in his late game lead protecting which he's done better at recently. Laughton often slides to wing late game with Filp because he seems to be less trusted in the faceoff circle and on the defensive coverages. Those are things they can work on in the off season so we don't need to rely on a "veteran 4c" next year and take a chance on bringing one our kids up.
There are a couple names on waivers today that I don't know if are improvements could be interesting like oduya and stewart. I haven't seen either play this year so no clue what they got left but could be options for us. |

I always thought Stewart was underrated, has some great hands and can score some goals if he gets the puck in the right spot but with how many forwards the Flyers already have can't see them claiming him even though I would. That would really solidify them into being able to roll 4 lines without having to be worried about matchups.

I wouldn't mind claiming them both but I don't see Hexy interested in another forward with how many forwards we already have. Oduya I could see as a real possibility though. |

If the Flyers didn't have Filppula, especially early in the season I doubt they'd be in as strong of a playoff position as they are now. He bought them time fr Patrick to get stronger and take a bigger bite. Fans make these comments that a coach has a "love" affair with a player rather than looking at it objectively and logically as to why the player gets the ice time he does. His ES ice time the last two games has been 11:24 against Ottawa and 12:52 against Columbus.

I'm not big on him. That said, most forwards are going to be an upgrade or Weise/Lehtera. But assuming Lindblom stays up once Simmonds gets back I think we're going to be set at forward. |

Like I was saying that is easily a 4c role for him and in that role I have a hard time of thinking of any other 4c in the east who is better than him and can move up in the lineup like he can. Filppula is a very valuable part of the Flyers team right now especially in the role he is playing. |

Yeah doubt they claim him was just spit balling ideas but you are right not really a hard thing to upgrade from Weise/Lehtera. I wouldn't be surprised if they claimed Oduya though literally no risk in doing so. |

Filpulla. I don’t care what the fancy community thinks. He’s been a useful piece for the team. Obviously he won’t be kept for next year but he’s met my expectations when the trade went down

I don't know what Fillpula wants to do. If he wants to test free agency or what. I would assume so. The Flyers might be interested in bringing him back if he was willing to sign a one year deal cheap.
