Sure.

SJ wanted Hansen and payed.
OTT wanted Burrows and payed.

Pretty easy when a rival GM calls you up and makes an offer, at which point a dialogue and negotiation ensues.

Point being, waiting by the phone for an offer is one thing, generating interest, pursuing opportunities and actually attempting to influence the market in some small way, is a whole other matter and one that this team has shown very little ability to do.

The different opinions on here are getting weeded out one by one. Becoming one high pitched monotone.

It’s like a funnel. At the start of the season fans who are naturally optimistic are optimistic. Fans who are naturally pessimistic are pessimistic. And everywhere in between. As the season wears on and the team begins to drop, and the guiding forces β€œseem” to be doing nothing, the opinions slowly circle the bowl, all heading in the same direction.

Well said, I think he can play on the wing on the 3rd line and take faceoffs though. Plus he’s decent on the PK. He can handle tough minutes unlike most of our vets which is why I’m fine with him as a stopgap.

Nobody's untouchable on a rebuilding team. Horvat is one of our few trading pieces that has value. If the offer is there you got to take it.
- bloatedmosquito

There is always a price on a player. A team should always be open to upgrade.

One of the things that drives me crazy about this market is the home town boy desire. This isn't the original 6 and we are not a culturally identifiable city like Boston and Montreal loading up with Irish and French players in the era of early televised sports. These players get overvalued here. Sick of it. One day our team will be all Chinese nationals if the Canucks continue with that concept.

I think Horvat getting injured spelled the end of any wild card aspirations. It was another one of those, if everything goes right who knows what could be.

It would be better if we had a season where everyone was mostly healthy and we sucked. less coulda, woulda, shoulda, everyone is available.

ahaha pretty much.

It's pretty easy to criticize from the sidelines but I'll say this.

There's only 30 other GM's in the league, thus one would have to assume that these guys have a pretty good understanding of the various offers and bids put out by each other.

If, after the ludicrous Nash trade, Benning hasn't called every team that lost out on him to offer up Vanek at the much more reasonable price of a 2nd or 3rd, he ain't doing his job effectively.

Team needs to be proactive, not that "we will look at any offers presented to us" bs spewed by management.

I agree partially.
Waiting by the phones? Source
As for generating interest nobody knows what goes on behind the scenes. Personally i prefer a GM who plays his cards close to the vest & not succumb to traces for ghe sake if trading. It takes a few years to settle into being a new GM IMO.

That all said my take on JB’s reign

Inherited a mess of NMC’s & NTC’s.
Kesler screwed us.
JB made trades to fill the age gap & it was mediocre at best.
His drafting has been good & it takes many years to see the fruit of success or not.
Shorter contract signings & no NTC’s.

All in all its not the TITANIC πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Tank food - if Vanek scores in the first, gets traded in the second, team plays short in the third and loses in regulation

Agreed on all. None of us has even the faintest idea of an NHL head office (that I know of), so it's easy to for us to say exactly what to do. But, like you said, if JB's sitting on his hands waiting for the pretty girl to come up to him and ask him to dance, it's going to be another long lonely TDL for him.

I’m generally optimistic πŸ‘πŸ‘
It goes beyond one game or a season.
The pessimists blind themselves & quick to go full retard at the drop of a hat. They have been around forever just the names change. Its Vancouver perennial problem as far as fans go & mostly media driven.
