Winning the Matthews lotto was the worst thing for the Leafs. Now they're stuck trying to go for a Cup but without the depth, D and solid goaltending you need to win 4 7-game series and plus they have Pittsburg, Tampa, Boston to deal with. After this season, they're probably going to have give Matthews an extension close to McDavid, screwing them over cap-wise for years.

I think the worse thing was immediately trading a 1st for a goalie who is going to single handedly win dozens of games for a team that is a defensive holocaust most nights shadowing the lack of defensive depth and over achieving. Probably the better rebuild move would have been to sign a stop gap goalie for 2 seasons and still draft high, kept the 1st and draft D and Goalie and defensive forwards in that span. A 4 year rebuild instead of a 2. Probably a cup team if not so impatient.

If this year they get a top 10 pick they keep it and it goes to 2019 they lose the pick. They also have NYR 7 th rd pick. You my good man are the mayor of rightsville. Trading the best defencemen in his prime and breaking up a team that made the conference finals the year before just because Kyle Turis was going to want to get market value is the way to build a contender.
Let's emulate that model.
When Boeser is up for a raise, let's trade him and a first round pick for a player making less money... because they're a lesser player.
We will make the western final in the second last year of horvat contract and trade him for a lesser player as well.
We can also trade Rasmus when his elc is set to expire as well.

This hockey game is unbelievable.

Well, I didn’t expect much out of men’s hockey this year. This game made me completely forget about the best players not being there.

The olympics beat Bettman in. Sense.

This last game was brilliant. Not the result I wanted but A++ on the entertainment scale. Couldn’t have got much better than that imo.
