And what's that?

Can't sign till next year since he has term on his contract, has to be last season on contract before he can sign an extension and longest he can sign for would be 8 years

I known that much. But it looks like the owners want to keep him and win if they are talking about wanting him here long term. That's a good thing.

Owners. Two guys running a near league low payroll since buying the team talking about extending a guy 17 months from now when they can actually do it, and them actually ponying up the contract are two way different things. A Hall extension is likely to make him a top 5-10 paid player in the league.

It’s like me saying I think I’ll buy a Bugatti in 2020 after driving Kias my whole life.

They haven't had a chance to spend money with the Devils. Who did you want them to pay big bucks, Severson?

Look at both Harris and Blitzers record with every business they’ve run, including newspapers and sports teams. Then tell me you get the warm and fuzzies about them putting money back into the team.

I don't know anything about the Sixers and barely follow basketball so idk. I'll wait till it's time to resign to make a judgment.

Let’s just say I hope I’m wrong, but them waxing poetic about an extension they can’t sign for a year and a half means nothing.

I only know of the 76ers from watching espn at the gym, alot of their #1 draft picks get injured before the season starts but from what I have heard that when they are healthy they can he dangerous and it will be telling on their contracts

In the end if the devils make the playoffs and they make money they will spend to make sure that they get that playoff $$$

I think it all comes down to playoffs

Kings oilers ending is crazy, oilers up 4-2 Kings scored with 18secs left and may have tied it with 9secs but under review

In case anyone is wondering. The Refs are worst in person. Glad the Devils won.

I share your concerns on this. Owners said they would spend when it made sense further along in the rebuild. They seemed willing to go after shattenkirk but we ended up signing cheap guys like gibbons, Hayes and Stanford....so we should get some indication after this season.

Right now there’s about 20 wingers in the league that make as much or more than Hall, if you expand that to all forwards that number jumps to over 50. There’s two years before they can offer an extension and salaries are just going to keep growing. Based on his peers Hall can probably expect to make about 50% more than he is now. Obviously I hope they sign him, but I think that’s going to be at serious cuts elsewhere.

Hischier, Butcher, Zacha, Bratt and Woods ELCs all run out by the time Hall hits UFA and there is little salary relief other than Greene’s contract expiring. My point is it’s one thing for an owner to look at a packed stadium drinking $8 beers and saying I want to do this again sometime with Hall and another to pony up that cash when a team no longer has half its players on ELCs.

I hope I’m wrong, but I’ve got the feeling that the days of the Devils in the top half of the league in spending ended when Vanderbeek left.

This team could use a RW for like the last three+ years... but i like the lineup with Grabner. Hope we get healthy soon. Not blaming Lack for the Minnesota game but it’s had to have confidence in him or KK. Of course Cory was kind of fighting it before the injury too....

Sad about Elias. Seems like just yesterday he was a rookie and then killing it on the A Line. I think Lou Lams really screwed up when he broke them up.

Queenie, do we still own Kovy's rights? If so there is the answer, or at least a guy who just boosted his trade value as mvp of the olympic hockey......

Kovy's a free agent come July 1st, no strings attached. This past offseason was our last chance to either sign him or trade his rights to get something out of him
