Let's be real. Bobby Ryan stinks and he wouldn't even be a name brought up for this team if it weren't for the hometown thing.

I dare anyone to use his stats and contract numbers to argue otherwise.

5th that could conditionally become a 4th is fair and the most I'd go. And I'd be happy with it.

Going above that isn't worth it for a 5-6 dman on an expiring contract imo.

That's about what I'd give up for him as well and feel good about it

Played pretty well in winning two Stanley cups..I don’t think the cost will be very high either. Solid guy...nothing spectacular.
- landros 2

For sure. He's the type of player that would have a ripple effect on this team. Slot him into the bottom 4 and suddenly you're not rolling Manning out there. Kills penalties too I think.

Hey if we are talking going for home grown talent maybe Winnipeg will take Dale Weise!

Edit: unfortunately Judique, Nova Scotia only has a jr c team, so I guess sending Andrew MacDonald packing (home)is out of the question.

You're not wrong, but when he's right, he brings size and skill. At age 30, it would be tough for him to regain form. Difficult, but not impossible.

I also don't even know where he'd fit on this team, as currently constituted.

As far as I am concerned making the playoffs is KFC gravy. I thought they were a bubble team so its alll good.
- MBFlyerfan

Same. And once they're in I don't give a frank who they play. Anything can happen when you're in.

The last part is correct for sure....as a third line winger with no pp time he’s useless....like Weise and Lehtera useless.

I don't think the Giroux argument is biased at all.

Giroux is writing a great story this year. Left for dead after last year, he changed positions for the good of the team and is putting up career numbers and is top 5 in league scoring at age 30.

- johndewar

That's kind of harsh. Everyone knows he was injured. But I do like his return to form this year for sure.

His return to form has also elevated others around him...and to me makes this team dangerous in the playoffs.

FFS, sitting in a cafe waiting to meet someone for business watching 3 millennial douchebags taking pictures of their glasses of sugar. I’m sure they’ll end up posted on some social media site with the requisite emojis and YOLOS!

Yeah, that was a bit of hyperbole, but even if you look a G's numbers going into last year, they were on a bit of a decline. After last year, it was fair to ask if he was on the decline.

The idea (though kind of far fetched) of trading Claude Giroux was openly discussed less than a year ago. This would have been unthinkable, previously:

http://www.nbcsports.com/...ade-flyers-im-not-leaving

So, while I did engage in a bit of hyperbole, people were asking serious questions about Giroux out loud.
