Not sure if he is an ass or is just a friendly guy and wants the value he is worth. Having said that, if he is moved, I Stone as a new captain with Duchene taking an A along with someone else isn't the worst thing ever to happen. Stone and Duchene are as fierce competitors as you are going to find. They don't just have skill, they have the desire to win even when things are going badly. Karlsson has definitely lacked that this year. He had in the playoffs though.
- Gord_Wilson_2.0

Karlssons playoffs last year is one thing that makes this year so much harder to take. He took himself and his team to another level in last year's post season.

Now the bum can't even execute a competent trade....

Interested to see how the season ticket sales go next season.

Not that we (Habs) are in any better shape but this can't be good for tickets sales.

I know, it's old news ... but having built the arena in Kanata is slowly but surely killing the team. I live across the river in Gatineau and can't be bothered to go over there (even when given free tickets).

We can keep this years pick if we want, and who is Hughes?? Did you mean Bowers??
- forbetterorWORSE

Hughes is currently the top ranked prospect for the 2019 draft.

I don't really get this trade from LV perspective. Using their capspace to add assets is a smart move, but giving up a prospect and adding Reaves seems weird to me.

I've never seen his posts in other forums, but he used to be good in here. Is it because he switched teams?? I can see that being a sore spot for die hard buds fans.

Necessary moves. I believe Smith and Pag should also be moved if you want to rebuild/retool.

My plan is still that Karlsson signs here long term, but this week has put severe doubt in my mind about that.

- Gord_Wilson_2.0

Given that Duchene will very likely want to avoid a rebuild/retool, we will almost certainly have to trade him next year. We will want to keep Pageau because we still need to field a team. Keep the local kid Pageau who is young enough that he may still be around when they are competitive again.

As long as Melnyk has owned the Senators, they have been a budget team. There is no "need" to include Ryan is a possible Karlsson deal. Any inclusion is purely a sign of cheapness on behalf of Melnyk.
Sens nation, all ten thousand of them should be angry. I wonder when they'll be moving the team to Quebec City or Markham?

Sources indicate big piece of Karlsson’s frustration stems from the financial fallout from Alfredsson I, Alfredsson II, and Turris.

They have severely discounted impact of damaged relationships there.

- david22

The problem with the damaging relationships is that it makes the grass look awfully greener.

Combined with him being possibly the most highly paid UFA ever (provided he returns to form next year) and I think Ottawa has to trade him if they any kind of significant package at all.

Radio said today no team has actually made a firm offer at this point.

Honeslty, don't know why everyone thinks Ottawa lost this deal.

They get a first, and a good goalie prospect. Something they'll need with Anderson getting older

to be fair, 65 is kinda being an ass about it. first stating he doesn't care about a fair contract he wants to get paid. then hinting at playing for other teams and then last night going over and seeing the lightning training staff on camera.

I like Karlsson and I hope he resigns but he is a terrible leader.

- Maverick1818

I think what he was saying is that he wants it to be a fair contract, not that he’s just looking to get paid. He said he expects fair market value. You can say that you don’t like him saying that kind of stuff publicly, and you’re not wrong, but Ottawa is a different situation. He probably saw his owner nickel and diming teammates who he likes and respects and wanted to send a message that he’s not going to accept that. Karlsson shares some responsibility for the side show this has become but I don’t have a problem with what he said considering the guy he’s dealing with at the top.

This truly is extraordinary in a bad way. I cannot recall any team ever being this messed up publicly. The amount of negative media is intense. Dorion needs to step up publicly at this point because this is becoming over the top.the fans ,the players the media need to know what is going on and calm this sh**down. The media are having a
feeding frenzy on this like a bunch of vultures,i do not even excuse the legit guys on that

- spazzbot

Honest question...

Would it help if they just came right out and said that they didn't feel they could win with this core and they need to rebuild.

It is not like they would be the first team to be obviously tearing it down. It might deflect fan sentiment away from the cheap ownership narrative?

Not defending him (I think he's an ass) but like any businessman, he doesn't like to lose money.

Unlike other cities, he doesn't get the benefits of corporations buying tickets for their clients because the biggest employer in town is the Federal government and there are restrictions on them doing that (buying tickets).

Add to that the piss poor location of the arena and you have a perfect storm ... when you have to resort to putting a tarp on the whole upper bowl, you know something is very wrong with the finances of the team.

Selling your best talent is not going to do wonders for tickets sales either ... nasty downhill spiral.

I’m sure the price Dorion is asking reflects Karlsson’s pre ankle value (he has to) and how can anyone pay that? He’s still a good defenseman but he’s not what he used to be. Maybe he’ll bounce back next season but that’s such a huge gamble when Dorion wants you to basically gut your farm.
