Doesn't matter is Ryan is included in a Karlsson deal or not. If you lose Karlsson, you lose the trade. An extra late 1st or prospect isn't going to change that. The team that gets the best player, generally wins the deal.

While I don't think Dorion is the best GM ever or even a top 30 GM in this league I do think he does the most with what he can do. The guy has no management team or scouts. He has a boss constantly screaming poor.

Trading Karlsson would be a black eye for the franchise, but if they are able to massage it into a hockey deal, then they might be able to stay afloat down the line. It's just that Karlsson is in such a league of his own that you lose any deal no matter what. It's tiring to see star players leave this city in circus-like fashion every time it happens. Sometimes it works and sometimes we never recover.

Scary part of all the Karlsson garbage is that they still should trade out guys like Smith, Cole (technically), Johnny O, Pagau, (Brassard technically) etc. But this is being a distraction/sideshow for a staff of essentially 1.

Great moves if we lose Phaneuf and Brassard, even though it means we terribly lost that deal with the Rangers.

I still don't believe Karlsson will be gone.

Like moving Karlsson could be a blessing in disguise for many reasons. I'm with you that the handling of all this is just bizarre.

I'd still like to sign Karlsson long term and add around him, Stone, and Duchene.

EK is not signing long term in Ottawa—they're going full rebuild. This is a full on rebuild in order to save money, probably to coincide with the new rink downtown.

The next 5 years will be a rough ride for Sens fans.

Not sure if he is an ass or is just a friendly guy and wants the value he is worth. Having said that, if he is moved, I Stone as a new captain with Duchene taking an A along with someone else isn't the worst thing ever to happen. Stone and Duchene are as fierce competitors as you are going to find. They don't just have skill, they have the desire to win even when things are going badly. Karlsson has definitely lacked that this year. He had in the playoffs though.
