According to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger, the Pittsburgh Penguins have acquried centre Derick Brassard from the Ottawa Senators for a package including their first-round pick. Dreger reports goaltender Filip Gustavsson is heading to the Senators as part of the deal, along with other cap-related elements

So we lost Cole (not good), Gustavsson (hard to tell but had the makings of being a stud), and a 1st for someone we will likely not be able to resign?! I personally think we overpaid...

I'm with you but I think Sprong is currently more important to us than Gustavsson. If we were gonna get Brassard, we were gonna lose one or the other.

My least favorite part of this is losing Cole.

Losing Cole sucks, but we got Brassard who is a good playoff performer. Should be worth it.

Agreed losing Cole is tough pill to swallow for the stretch run but we were unlikely to resign him anyway ... plus isn’t DB signed for next year too?

That seems like a lot.

I expect Ottawa will likely flip Cole for a pick. So Ottawa gets a 1st this year, a good goalie prospect and whatever they can flip Cole for. Decent return for them.

How many more years is Brassard signed for?

Cole is bound to get flipped by OTT before deadline, right? He is a UFA.

Hate losing Cole. They're going to flip him, but this is still very good for us. Not losing Sprong is GREAT!

I am glad that if came to the two, they chose Sprong. The fact that Brassy isn't a rental makes this an easier pill to swallow.
Cole was always in the doghouse. Even though he's way better than Hunwick, its clear HCMS didn't see it that way not to mention he's likely gone in a few months anyway.
