Then you go for the second tier: Ryan, fifty feet of crap, and then Letestu/Strome - DeflatedPucks
2nd tier really stinks as I don't see Ryan being available. |

They could send Simon down too. He's waiver exempt.
I'm pretty ignorant to how the salary cap works, but I thought there was a conversation on here about the cap hit for players is prorated. For instance, capfriendly has Brassard's remaining cap hit of 1.15mil. If that's the case, we could fit him pretty easily.
- madmike71
They could send Simon down. I'm assuming they at least leave room for 13 forwards which is what I went down to. But it's doable. I can't believe Sheary's stock is so low they can't trade him anywhere. I'm more concerned with the cost as I'd prefer not to trade a 1st and Sprong. A 1st and Gustavsson I'd do. - Tojo.
We won't know how Sheary is valued around the league until after the TDL. His contract is tough for his production this season. He's gotten a good bit of TOI in the top 6, plus 2nd PP unit time. His play and benching in last years playoffs has to be a red flag too.

I love this time of year as we throw crazy ideas around and in the ends nothing will be crazier than what typical ends up happening.
How about this one: Brassard and Karlsson to the Pens for Letang, Hunwick, Sheary and a 2nd round pick?
|
|
|
|
The Leafs have a big window to compete for cups beyond this season and who knows whats going on with Matthews. I would think a JVR for Sheary+Pick swap could be in the works. Sheary would be depth for them anyways and he's signed long-term whereas JVR isn't and they probably can't afford him moving forward where we can (assuming we re-sign him and not Hornqvist moving forward) |

My gut is still telling me that Plekanec is the Pens next acquisition
I was hoping we would be able to do some sort of package deal with plek/galchenyek and galleger/patches. Montreal is just so bad i feel like they are just waiting to make a bad trade. Too bad we have no cap |

You would have to add a 1st and one of our goalies most likely to make this work. Karlsson alone is worth more than Letang, Sheary and a 2nd and Brassard is worth more than just Hunwick |

I think I'd be cool with it if that conditional meant that there was going to be a legit attempt on the part of Rutherford to resign Kane. With the influx of cheap talent, I've amended my position on Sheary and would like to consolidate cap space for a big ticket forward. Crosby, as usual (ugh) is having a lot of difficulty finding a non-Kunitz or Dupuis player that he likes playing with, and I think Kane would be a fantastic fit. Sheary is currently playing on the fourth line, and will probably be doing so for the remainder of his contract. Not because he's bad, but because our forwards are just that good. He's expendable and should be upgraded if possible. - Victoro311
I usually think that, but i can't tell this time if its Crosby being picky or Sullivan literally trying every single possible option on best line combos... |

Still think someone will be interested. Young, fast, plays both wings, was very productive last year (admittedly with Crosby). Short term investment. Maybe he doesn't get a big return, but I'd think they could move him to clear cap space if they needed to. |

I'd dig that. Reunite JVR and The Phil, pump Guentzel back up to his rightful place beside Crosby. Something like:
Guentzel-Crosby-Rust
Hagelin-Malkin-Hornqvist
van Riemsdyk-Sheahan-Kessel
Simon-Rowney-ZAR/Reaves
Add a center to that and that lineup owns. |

Scratch the 2nd and make it a 1st and a 3rd and call it a day. Not going to get a goalie too on top of that. Too much going the other way for those two players. |

If Gallagher is available (which i dont think he is), you throw everything at MTL. I'd do a 1st, prospect, and Sheary for him. A young, winger with term on a good contract who would fit perfectly on Crosby's wing.

Ottawa could get a better deal than that for EK alone. |

Basically the Canadian version of Hornqvist. Midget powerforward bulldog who's good for at least one elongated injury a season. We'd love him here and his contract is indeed great. You wanna talk about Hornqvist replacement? He'd be the closest thing to it and only adds 750k on top of Sheary, so we'd still have cap to pursue someone else. |

My thoughts exactly. Not giving Blueger a shot to see if he can be Rowney insurance or better was a mistake imo. If we have these lines, each of those lines could easily play 17-19 while playing our 4th line on the PK and the odd shift averaging 6-9 minutes a night |

Honestly he may not fit well with Sid for all we know. Certainly the coaching staff will play a role (a la kes and cros).
I'm not sure what type of guy gallagher is (EW,NS,etc) so I may be wrong, but this just seems like a wierd swap since both sheary and gallagher are 25 and young. And his cap hit is more than Sheary's.
A package of a 1st, prospect and sheary could certainly get better |

My GP would be to double shift Sid and Malkin to minimize Rowny's TOI to about 5 minutes and PKs while still giving Simon and ZAR upwards of 10+ and special teams time. |

Hence what i said about not being afraid to give up more for him. He would be an ideal winger for this team. |

I don't know man. Brendan Gallagher would be a pretty good get and he has a TON of term left. Would probably take you to Sid and Malkin's final two or three years. |
