I think I would have yes

so Pittsburgh was the one rumored to get very high on him, and that's probably gonna be 31st overall in the first round, personally I think having the Russian kid is worth 17 slots or so in the draft

I realize a first round pick is sexier though, but I think they made right call

would you have preferred a late round 1st rounder instead of the Devils second ( I say like 48th) and this Russian kid?

Nah, I like the deal. Grabner gets to keep his crib so he can sign with the Rangers over the summer. The Rangers have been keeping close tabs on Shesterkin which means they have seen plenty of Rykov too. A second and a third and two prospects for Grabner and Holden. When Nash goes we will have jettisoned almost 11 million of cap hit and seemingly replaced it with near entry level contracts. Chytil and Andersson will be with the big club next season at $925,000 a year each. Gorton is cutting payroll and if McDonagh can be moved that 11 million becomes almost 16 million. We will be getting younger and be well under the cap to try to snag a young, prized free agent or two in 2018 and 2019. Move Shattenkirk if you can...I never liked the guy....for a freakin 2nd rounder to save 6.65 million a year and Zucc at next years trade deadline. Bag Tavares...even thought he is not a fav of mine....this July and Seguin next July. Win the lottery and grab Dahlin. About time we hit a few home runs and caught a few breaks, eh?

If this pick ends up in the top 16 in the 2nd round it's a win, the Devils are no lock for the playoffs, their goaltending with Schneider out is suspect at best

I think they make it but out of the 16 teams, they’ll be at the bottom. I think the trade is a good one. If they re-sign Grabs, it’s a great trade

I would kind of prefer a more NHL ready prospect over a 1st for Nash, but thats just me

I just dived into the KHL stats. Rykov's stats are pretty much average, except for # of hits: last amongst D's on SKA with only 2 (!) registered hits this season...
Could be he's a big softie...?

So he's no Rod Carew

I mean I guess if its what the market is, I can't complain. I would have thought there might be a better deal. If he re-signs with us its all gravy. That would make the deal awesome.

I'd love to see them both (Nash and Mcd) go to Toronto for Marner or Nylander and a 1st (and maybe a 5th/6th). I'd be very happy with that.

in the 90's I worked for an airline and Rod carew's daughter had died and he was on one of our flights back to Minneapolis. Something happened on the plane where the flight attendant (frank)ed a portrait up of the daughter and it was kind of a big news story.

I took a call from some random woman yelling at me about it like I have never been yelled at before in my life.

Carew was beloved in Minnesota.

I saw on The Twitter that a few teams were only looking to offer a 3rd, only a few were offering a second. They got the best out of a crowded market, it is what it is, there were 10 teams, maybe more, it was a big enough sample size for the market to set the return, not like it was only one or two teams

Not sure why so many here talk about Ryan Graves. Maybe it’s because our prospect pool sucks?
