Why do we have to wait until he is 29?

Add Ekman-Larsson to the 2nd pair here, push down MacDonald or Hagg to the 3rd pairing.

But it doesn't have to be just him. The Flyers have the picks and pieces that they could gamble a little and it still wouldn't take away from the future.

Carter hart projection as well as d prospects. Your e going to pay 8+ million for oel on the 2nd pairing ? Hard pass.

Really? Sit back, grab some snacks, and enjoy the show. lol

Should be fun listening to a bunch of message board hockey fans explain why they should be in the flyers front office.

In all seriousness though, there are a ton of knowledgeable hockey fans in here. I am just saying that the team sees a lot more than we do on a daily basis. We only see what happens at games.

Oel is 26 and more of an offensive weapon than defense. His next contract is probably going to be massive. He will be 29 when i see our championship window opening. Don't get me wrong he's good defensively but there is a reason he's 2nd pairing to guys like hedman in international play. I love oel but not for the price or timeline. Domi however is a great fit.
- Tfaehner

I think that says more to how great Hedman is than anything else. Kimmo Timonen, in 09/10, was a legit top-pair defenseman, but Chris Pronger was still playing at a near HHOF-level, so they split them up for depth. Same thing here. If OEL came over, you're adding a top-10 (top-15 at the least) current NHL defenseman with a RH shot. That's not a bad thing.

This sounds like you're saying that management and the coaching staff have done a good job.
- Scoob

I do think management has done a good job.

I know i have taken shots a Hak and even Hextall from time to time but you look at this team right now, and especially how the young kids are prospering, you simply can't argue with how things are being done.

Sure there is things we can nit-pick, and we know plenty will, but the results are all on the positive side of the ledger.

I find it interesting that on fourthperiod they have us interested in Karlsson and OEL.

Yep. The women's tournament is a snoozer in that regard. Everyone knows it's going to be US-Canada for the gold. All of the other games leading up to that game are just warm ups.

I really hope the NHL stays out of the Olympics for good.

- Scoob

I agree with all of everything here.

Keep the NHL out of the Olympics!!!

I just don't think he fits the timeline and adding another 8+ million contract with contracts to guys like provorov tk Patrick waiting in the wings doesn't make a lot of sense for us. He also doesn't seem to fit our need he's more offensive and we already have sanheim provy and gost playing those roles. Not saying he doesn't help us he absolutely would but I just don't like the long term outlook of acquiring him.

I think that the collective front office has done a good job in general. That doesn't mean that some of their decision are beyond question like some would have you think.

Yes, it's working right now. That doesn't mean that certain decision wouldn't have it working better, and it also means that it might be working despite several puzzling (to put it mildly) decisions.

Oh, the cap hit absolutely doesn't work, especially when you consider that Provorov is going to get a monster deal in 2 summers. I'm just saying that, on paper, adding him to the roster isn't a bad thing.

As for Sanheim, I think the Flyers hope that he one day can be what OEL is. Right now, Sanheim is not on the roster, and is still developing. If we can get prime OEL right now (without giving up Sanheim), that's not a bad thing. It's the assets and cap hit that make it prohibitive.

So then don't get Ekman-Larsson. Check on Justin Faulk who I have heard could be moved and is signed 2 more years at a reasonable price.

I just think the Flyers can do more then just a slight upgrade

The same people arguing to buy were sellers 3 weeks ago. This team with this roster did this. They got here. Have we learned nothing from the eagles ? If we got a chance to get a low cost Ajayi (which I think we did in mrazek) do it. Don't mortgage the future. Howie called teams and was in on everything but nothing made sense. I expect and truly believe hexy will do the same thing.

Ive never coached hockey, but I have coached baseball at a level where every player is on the team because they earned it.

I had a few kids who were my best hitters from an avg. standpoint. in the 3rd 4th 5th inning they were going to come through for me. But a few of them, when it got to the 7th and we needed a run, they would sometimes let the pressure get to them. You could see the palpable nervousness in their demeanor. Now I could see it because I was right there next to them. Some guy sitting in the bleachers wouldn't notice.

Same went with my fielders, they would eat everything hit at them, but sometimes when the game was on the line it would get in their heads. It was mainly the kids who were younger. And god forbid they made an error or struck out, it really messed with them.

Maybe Hak sees some of this and that is why he feels more comfortable trotting Weise and Lehtera out there late in games. They may make a mistake, but it doesn't eat away at them like a younger player.

This is just an opinion. And in no way am I trying to defend Weise, he was terrible again last night and will probably never see the ice again once Simmonds and Konecny return,

The Flyers can do any slight/major/in between upgrade. But the asking price has to be reasonable, and they have to be able to make it work both financially and roster-wise.

Honestly, the Flyers could probably trade for Connor McDavid. That would be an upgrade at center for sure. But the package to get him probably looks like this:

- Ivan Provorov
- Sean Couturier
- 3 consecutive non-protected 1st round picks
- Travis Konency
- One of Sanheim/Morin

And that's just not a good deal. As Scoob is apt to remind us, it takes two to tango.

Is it really debatable that Lindblom would have been a better callup option than Goulbourne last month? Or that he's a better NHL winger than Lehtera or Weise? I don't think it is.
- Feanor

That was not why he was sent down.

I get that.

Again i don't want a dumb Adam Oates type deal. But I think they can take a little risk and aim higher then just a 3rd pair upgrade.

And that is what I am saying. Get a guy who is available but has term. I am ok moving a Morin if it means I am getting a legit top 4 back in Ekman-Larsson. Better yet what if I include one of the 2018 1st rounders and Rubtsov and try to get Domi and Ekman-Larrson. For this run and the future.
- J35Bacher

how are they fitting 5 million on the current cap (or whatever the pro-rated cap hit is) ? isn't OEL a UFA after next season? re-signing him is going to cost. not sure I want to give up assets for this year and next.

They don't.

But this is also a plus for no NHLers in the Olympics. It's all up for grabs now.

Kovalchuk and Datsyk say hello. Russia seemed to be the easy gold favorite coming in. I would LOVE to see Germany beat them but its highly unlikely. here's hoping.

I don't like a lot of Hakstol's decisions. But he's also made a few very nice decisions. I'd say my take on him is more bad than good, and I wouldn't shed a tear if he was replaced. At the same time, I'm not going to tear my hair out as long as he has the team progressing.

Also, to flat-out say that Hakstol and co. always make the right decision* is just as biased and blind as the people he say they suck and do not right.
