Murray is obviously young but how do you feel about moving Filip Gustavsson and a first for Brassard with him being a UFA after next year?
- nastyflyergirl

the organization is pretty high on jarry too.

i liked gustavsson from what ive seen, but i wont try and act like im a scouting savant or anything. potential or not hes still a young goalie with a while to go. the market for goalies is usually not that great from a trade perspective anyway.

the first always stinks but it is what it is. you have a roughly four year window where you need to focus on.

brassard is a perfect fit for the team, and im fine paying a bit of an inflated rate when you consider the retained salary. honestly, the cole part stings a bit. i understand he was never going to resign with the pens, but having hunwick have to play regular minutes is a huge problem. cole is the perfect type of understated guy that really excels in the playoffs

that's true. Brassard will help here, a prospective 1st rounder even if he turns into a dece player isn't gonna do jack for you guys 4 years from now once Crosby and Frankenstein are...well...4 years older.

Trying to keep that window open. You and I both know when it closes on the pens it's going to close hard.

Also, now imagine have 3 Hunwicks.

I mean...I dunno. I sure as hell wouldn't be thrilled if the Flyers gave up a 1st for Derick freaking Brassard. Dude is just not that good.

i mean, i'll take 3 consecutive cups in return for a rebuild period any day

oh yeah. you have to ride this wave as long as you can. just accept the fact that when the music stops you need to find a whole new band.

i dont know if a team can realistically support three hunwicks. the flyers do not subject you to that reality.

Manning and Hagg, so 2 not 3. I won't lump Amac or Gudas in as Hunwicks, that's too much

I'm moderately bummed about Ian Cole, he's the perfect type of player they need. Cheap as hell but better than Manning. Someone to "stabilize" the bottom pair.

i just dont see the need to do sheary and a 2nd for him. i dont think it destroys anything, but its just unnecessary boat rocking. sheary isnt a stud but he is a fairly cheap and relatively useful player.

if they move guenztel for him, ill probably have an aneurysm

amac and gudas are both better. hagg, eh. at least he can make a feasible justification that he is young. manning busts his ass off but he is just very physically limited.

hunwick isnt objectively terribly with the puck on his stick. he isnt the worst skater. but for whatever reason, hes an abortion on ice.

If that happens then its clear the Pens are going 100% all in..
They know the window is closing soon and they want to maximize cup wins..
I can respect that attitude though I also like where the Flyers are right now I would give up all these prospects to have one of the Pens recent cup wins..

im super bummed about the pens losing cole. hes a perfect third pairing guy. great in the playoffs. im not a guy who tugs off to needing grit in the lineup, but he was really the one guy on the team with a functional sandpaper element. blocked a ton of shots. good PKer. all of those intangible things that guys try to justify the crease clearing pylon trope but in a guy who can actually play a regular shift.

ottawa will probably look to flush him for like a fourth. i would have just rather they let the sens keep their third.

Hagg is a rookie who is being asked to take on a large role and play in tough defensive assignments and deployments and is holding his own on a team that as of last night was 1 point out of first place in the division. Most rookie defenseman start out in sheltered roles.

oh yeah. hes tough for me to peg a FA market for. hes still reasonably young and has cup pedigree to his resume, but at the end of the day hes a stay at home guy who will never put up points. those guys can be undervalued relatively speaking to the D market.

although the caps did give orpik the keys to fort knox so who knows.
