undoubtedly, the Rangers interest in Rykov is factored heavily on the desire to get his teammate, Igor Shesterkin, over in time for the 2019-2020 season. Both their KHL contracts end the same time.

And if the Rangers sign Kovalchuk this summer as rumored, that will help as well.

He has 25 goals this year on a trash NY team. Nobody can predict the future and there are no guarantees in life. Just like there are no guarantees the 2nd round pick pans out into anything.

"deep draft" is just intangible stuff that has no meaning. I've heard "deep drafts" that were all busts later on. who cares. People make too big a deal about prospects when the vast majority don't even get a sniff at the NHL.

Grabner being UFA status means that we got to get him for less than if he had term left. We'll get to negotiate with him first for an extension, which is needed because we have no RWs.

What's the problem here.

Pretty sure the was a blog on here that laid out the stats and "underlying" numbers for players on the trade bait board and if I am not mistaken grabners numbers where the most inflated and he has like 7 empy net goals this season so really he has about 18 right now in my books. There isn't much point in arguing with you though because you just ass kiss everything move the devils make.
everyone in here just days ago saying they didn't want any rentals and even if a deal is in place grabners is not worth a promising prospect or a second and why the (frank) would you help the rangers out at all. But yeah be happy being the guy who over paid for the player who's numbers are going to fall off the planet...

It means how many goals/points is acceptable to say it was worth trading a 2nd. 5 goals? 10 points? How many?

Palmieri is the best RW. We have Stafford and Noesen as RW not hard to be better then them.

you are seriously wasting you're time here...

Never, ever, ever, want to see us trade with the Rangers but this deal is fair.

I’ll would have rather had thrown money at Radulov to help with the need at RW before the season but that didn’t happen. And I would prefer trading for Hoffman but that is theoretical because who know what that would have cost.

I highly doubt Ray has anything worked out with Grabner contract wise and if he goes back to the blueskirts it’ll be a tough pill to swallow. But if the Rangers are really blowing it up and fire AV, I’m not sure NY is that attractive a destination. We’ll see what happens.

I don't like it at all. Would of been happy as poop just plowing through the rest of this season... As if there wouldn't be internal growth and grabner all of a sudden makes us ready for the play offs ? No we would of gotten poop kicked had we of stayed pat and we will still get poop kicked if we make it in only difference is now ray deviated from his plan everyone was in love with or the sheep where in love with and has gone and traded away futures for players 30+ like yeah awesome us ! And the sheep just go oh we probably needed grabner. If anything we could of used a move for a legit NHL back up or fringe started like Mrazek something that's actually going to help us win more games as we would still be amongst the top had we not had a ten game stretch of no cory. A second rounder for a guy we didn't even need I would of been upset if we spent a third we just are at that point yet so why the (frank) do it ???

Too much for Grabner. Rykov seems to be a good prospect + a 2nd RP. I thought you guys gave up too much.

Have to wear heavy duty gloves when dealing with these scumbags. Good luck to Grabner!

He does but I guess if he has no intentions of signing here you have to get something for him just wish it wasn't something so blah. Should have gotten something that would of helped the franchise for a longer period of time if ray felt he wasn't going to be able to bring Rykov over. If he comes over for the rangers and puts up even similar numbers to his khl ones then they will have fleeced us almost as bad as montreal on gomez.

I think in the landscape of the league, if your a team that is in solid playoff standing you truly can not say your not a cup contender or your not “ready” yet. This a league with an expansion franchise leading the presidents trophy race and had a senators team a goal away from a cup finals appearance.

that doesn't mean you just whip out assets because you have a 1 percent shot that isn't how you build success thats how you empty you're cupboards and end up in the play offs for one or two seasons.

No one is saying that. Doesn’t mean you don’t make a reasonable deal like the one the devils made to bolster the lineup. Even if no one thinks your a “cup contender”

Maybe you would of been happier had the flyers gave up a second and hagg for Grabner?

The good thing about Brunner was we didn't give up assets to get him. He just signed here for free and skated around everywhere he went really fast. How many games did he or Michael Ryder help us win ? Didn't know anybody would of been happy giving up a second and a good prospect for those guys hell people could not wait to get them off the team even though Ryder was on pace for 20 goals...

A second and a decent prospect for a guy you are just going to flip I don't think so thats more like a deal you make for a guy you really want and we came in late with about 10 other teams having interest we clearly offered more then anyones why else do they just decide to trade him in division to a rival. We offered more then any other team was willing to and why ? because Ray is smarter then them ? come on that's not it.

I want to see Grabner and Wood on a line just so one of them gets the puck in the D zone and they both skate full speed until it's a 2 on 0

No problem with this deal. Yes it might appear expensive, but when you break it down to possibilities, not so much. Rykov, if he ever plays in the NHL is at the earliest 19/20 from entering the league and then needs some time to adjust to NHL format. Russian players who have not played here before sometimes struggle with that adjustment. So 3years(?) before he has even a chance at helping Devils. The second round pick, lets say its #50. Yeah you might hit a home run, but history demonstrates, even in a "deep" draft, that home run is more likely to be a long flyout. Finally, Grabner is going to give the Devils some secondary scoring, over the last 2 years Grabner has been one of the best 5x5 goal scorers in the NHL. And to those complaining about the EN goals(something the Dev need also), I see a player who the coach trusts on the ice during a crucial part of the game. Shero did not give up any top prospects, and retained his cap flexibility. Nice move!

Grabner is solid middle 6 player who has speed and is a great PKer, can definitely help. With that said, that was a high price for a non cup contender who probably will lose him in the off season. Yes, he has 25 goals but 7 empty netters and I believe his shooting percentage is like 19% which is not sustainable. I don't see this moving the needle much in terms of the Devils chances in advancing in the post season.

The devs have beaten quality teams recently, including TB. I’m not saying they are Cup contenders but, if healthy, they could make some noise. I’m glad, as a fan, to see Shero making a move to make team better.

I doubt it but maybe Shero moves Grabner to another team who needs a cap friendly player. If Shero made this, out of no where, trade I asssume he’s not done. Issue is Devs have little to offer... unless they take on salary.
