I would still lowball the hell out of Melnyk if he wants Ryan taken in a deal with Karlsson. It means he doesn't want any hockey trade, he wants rid of the contract. That comes with it's own price.

Conditions are based on games played in 2019
Less then 41 games and it's a third, goes up to a 2nd if he plays 70 or more games, turns into a first whether or not he plays 41 games if he plays in 16 playoff games combined over the next two playoffs.

Well that is a no brainer they would obviously get less with ryan included. Thats what every article and media outlet has been saying. Everyone knows a team isnt going to take on a player that makes double what he should make and has injury issues for four more years. And get the same return by taking on that contract in the salary cap era.

hope we dont trade away our young assets for a good but not great dman. We have made these stupid trades for years and where has it got us? stay the course, draft and develop for at least another 2 years, we are not quite there yet. Trade out our ufas for more young assets. We are still a very young team, this is not the year to go all in. Boyle was not worth a second last year, way too soon to be making dumb trades like that. Scared we will be making more stupid trades at the deadline. The Leafs are finally putting together a very good young team, lets not screw it all up now.

I'm not sure about next year. Although it wouldn't surprise me much if it did. But I do feel he will have one more year in the AHL. Or close to half, sort of like what Dermott did this season.

To Toronto: Karlsson, something very minor (don't care, but not salary dump)

To Ottawa: Bracco, Rychel, 2018 1st rounder.

And in a completely unrelated move, Bell/Rogers announce a $200 million sponsorship deal for the new Brogers Arena in LeBreton Flats, Ottawa.

Melnyk isn't stupid. He's cheap.

Let's hit him where it counts - in the wallet.

The thing you forget in all of this is the youth and talent that would have to be paid for McD, he isn't a goddam free agent.

Because with the right tweaking, you guys might just have a really good shot at a Cup now.
Personally, I would love to see McD moved for Nylander, but I understand that is unlikely.
But, the real question is, if solidifying your blue line (and adding Mack Truck will do exactly that) brings you your 1st Cup in 51 years, even at the expense of a really good, young center, isn't it worth it? Is the goal to horde young talent, or to win the Cup?
