still has some potential but he is almost 24 now.. Good move for Boston
- PatC80

Pretty much moved up a bunch of draft spots to get a depth defenseman in Holden in exchange for Vatrano, who couldn't crack the lineup. Works for me.

luckily lou stays focused.
no need to go off course and acquire aging, diminishing assets like McDonagh for picks and youth.
nope.

exactly, I can't see Lou & Co. doing this type of trade. At least not this season.
- PatC80

It makes sense to me, have him on a cheap contract for two years while the kids are on the ELCs, then sign him to an extension.

If a guy like him is available, I think you have to give it a try

Don’t give up any of that talent for Rangers D. No way I trade Dermott. Only one Id give up would be Bracco.

He is still a top D, he is 28.

He is not diminishing at all, he instantly becomes the Leafs best D if he were to be on the team.

To be perfectly honest, I don't have a real opinion on McDonagh - so I'm going off of what others say.

And people who I respect say he's a top pairing guy, who also brings a lot of leadership to the table (he's the frickin' captain). And he has also demonstrated great playoff poise.

On paper, that's a great fit for the Leafs this year.

Please keep in mind my offer was not serious - I think it's too low for the Rangers to bite. But OK, here goes:

- I don't think Bracco is ever going to be a top-6 guy in the NHL. So I simply don't care if we lose him or not.
- I'm hoping our 1st this year is bottom 10 - so hurts a little, but not a lot.
- Liljegren (or however the frank you spell it) is a mystery. But it's a risk I would be willing to take. I don't think he will be a true impact player for another 4 years - so I'd rather have McDonagh now, and hope to re-sign him in 18 months.

At the end of the day, this is all a big waste of time - Lou will do what Lou does, probably without even checking this board before making his changes.

Thanks for your comments. Your right Lou will do what he wants.

I'd like to remind you that Shea Weber, when acquired, was considered an over the hill grandpa at 31.

he'll be 29 in a few months, by the time the leafs are ready to contend in a couple years he will either be gone, lost for nothing, or resigned to a bloated contract and on the steep slope down.

I believe my exact words were:

Weber is so franking old I'll bet he doesn't even complete the season - they'll probably have to shut him down with about 20 games left due to some sorta injury - possibly foot.

More or less...

cool, I don't care when he turns 29. He is 28.

And huh? Gone? If the Leafs acquire him im sure they will have full intent to try and resign him and would make sure Mcdonaugh has interest as well before making the trade

Weber plays for the Habs so he will always be a grandpa.

Unless he is traded to the Leafs

2nd would still be too soon.

Hell, the Capitals were #1 last year, and they clearly weren't ready...

We're waiting for them to change their name to the Bruins, move to Boston, and sign all the biggest poopheads in the league that fans of other teams could never like.

He just looks older because he's taller than all the rest of the Habs.

No way does Toronto pay that kind of price for McDonough. Lil, Kap and a first? Not gonna happen. They'll go after Hjallmarsson first, he'll cost far less and give the Leafs a similar player with far less offense. They don't need offense though, so that will do for them
