I'm a little bit concerned because of his concussion earlier in the year. Jeff Veillette suggested it might be a shoulder injury.
I think that something felt off (maybe he just got shook up, he got sandwiched pretty good), and they shut him down because why risk it in what's essentially a meaningless game (outside of showcasing the Leafs' comeback ability and sticktoitiveness to Tavares) |

Morgan Reilly was injured last year -ankle and missed time. Injured again this year. Matthews plays hard and also gets knocked around. Gee do we have amnesia? Remember Doug Gilmour getting knocked around ie physical play? Wendell Clark could score 30-40 a year but would beat the snot out of anyone that pummeled Gilmour or fried to run him over. Can not believe some of you “fans”! Matthews is the real deal. ....and Martin doesn’t contribute enough to stay. Million dollar size-physicality $500 skating and 10 cent skill |

They won't, but this really sends a message: ratings are way down apparently and will be even worse next time around, once people know what to expect. Spengler Cups don't sell well. - gravyface
Ya but the ratings are down in certain time zones for all events.
Even with NHL'ers there,. viewership would be down in certain places.
I understand what you are saying, but the Olympics are bigger than mens hockey.
The Olympics are losing money in general...cost too much to put on...cost too much for tickets |

Cash is king brah, the IOC are in it for the money, like anyone else, and if hockey ratings are down, revenue is down, big time. |

The reason the NHL'ers arent there is because of cash. The NHL wanted the IOC to cover the insurance cost etc for the NHL'ers. I believe they are saving money without the NHL'ers there. |

Looked like his shoulder. I have had a injury like this. You can play through it, but you cant lift your arm all the way up without pain and it takes the power out of your shot. Also takes a long time to heal properly...

My biggest concern was how mad he was when he was leaving the game. Seemed like he knew what was wrong and reaggrivated it. I’m thinking shoulder as well and perhaps that’s what he was out with the first time this year.

The NHL has always paid crazy high premiums on the insurance. They take all the risk, lose a bunch of revenue due to the two-week break, and really get nothing out of it except risk and loss of revenue, and there's no revenue-sharing between IOC and NHL for TV revenue.
So the NHL said, "hey (frank)ers, pay our insurance at least.". IOC said no.
So now that the ratings are down, IOC is losing money, while the NHL isn't. |

McDavid burnt his Oilers jersey, tore up his contract in disgust, and was airlifted in by a squadron of Canadian Geese for the 3rd period. |
