Guys I may be in the minority here, but I have a really bad feeling that the Leafs giving up any significant assets for McDonagh will end up being the same bullpoop we used to see from the Leafs... throwing away the future to chase fools gold.

I just don't see how it makes sense to sign him long term and who knows if we could or should afford it. He is already not the same player he was 3 years ago, and I don't think he brings us a cup, and as a rental... he is damn expensive.

Stick to the plan. Develop our own players, unless we can get something valuable without compromising the future.

I think he's always used it to his advantage. He was just snake bit here and couldn't score to save his life.
- GreatGigInTheSky

Yeah, I guess you’re right there. And yes he was! Lol. He was like that for the first while in NY, too. No complaints on his play right now.

We don't need another right winger.

So thanks, but no thanks

I am also not so sure how his newfound ability to use his speed fits with Babcock.

I agree but are you going to be able to stop Lou if he proceeds?

Grabner can go (frank) himself.
- Unholy_Goalie

I’m sure you’re not the only Leaf fan that feels that way!
Unfortunately, living in Southern Ontario I see more of your teams games than mine. I can tell you, he’s not the same.

And then remember he had an operation where they removed bone from his ankle to repair tendons and he hasn't looked the same since?

And remember how you don't want to trade away the future?

And remember how you don't want to pay guys for what they achieved with their previous teams?

- Atomic Wedgie

Did you see "Tampa Bay" in that post? Of course you didn't. Why would you read it?

I don't know if Lou would do it but I certainly hope he doesn't. But you're absolutely right, it doesn't make sense, don't do it, stick to the plan, keep developing from within.

So he's a pile of poop with sprinkles on it now instead of just a pile of poop.

Nope. Pass.

LeBrun said something very interesting on the radio. He said that Lou essentially sent a message last year with the Hamonic trade that never happened. Lou made it clear he was interested in adding via trade, but will not spend more than an internally set price.

So if you look at the trade between NYI and Calgary, you can see what the Leafs view as an overpayment.

That's a great observation. With all the teams out there, can't see the price being a low or Lou paying something crazy either.

They seem to be very distracted tonight. Probably wanting the trade deadline to pass.
