hope we dont trade away our young assets for a good but not great dman. We have made these stupid trades for years and where has it got us? stay the course, draft and develop for at least another 2 years, we are not quite there yet. Trade out our ufas for more young assets. We are still a very young team, this is not the year to go all in. Boyle was not worth a second last year, way too soon to be making dumb trades like that. Scared we will be making more stupid trades at the deadline. The Leafs are finally putting together a very good young team, lets not screw it all up now.

Unpopular opinion. I don't want Karlsson. Hes brutal defensively. We have enough of those types of dmen.

Vanek and a 4th to Pittsburgh for a conditional 2nd.
Hutton and a 2019 2nd for Domi and a 2018 4th

Low percentage blockbuster

Tanev to TO for Lilgren , a 2018 1st and a conditional pick in 2019.
Conditions are based on games played in 2019
Less then 41 games and it's a third, goes up to a 2nd if he plays 70 or more games, turns into a first whether or not he plays 41 games if he plays in 16 playoff games combined over the next two playoffs.

- imsorry66

To be fair, you're quoting a fan base who thought it was a good idea to draft Virtanen over Ehlers or Nylander.

Because with the right tweaking, you guys might just have a really good shot at a Cup now.
Personally, I would love to see McD moved for Nylander, but I understand that is unlikely.
But, the real question is, if solidifying your blue line (and adding Mack Truck will do exactly that) brings you your 1st Cup in 51 years, even at the expense of a really good, young center, isn't it worth it? Is the goal to horde young talent, or to win the Cup?

Yeah, Nylander wouldn't happen. If you are talking a 20-23 year old defense that is controllable for the next half a decade then you can talk.

In Mcd's stage of his career he will get a package, a very good package.

For the right price I would certainly want him. He will help the Leafs be contenders for the next 8 years with the Leafs most certainly signing. He is used to the pressure of playing in a large market, he is a leader, is a top pair, will be in his prime for at least half a decade. He checks a lot of the boxes.

Other things that will factor into my decision on whether or not I support trading for Mack Truck:

- cool facial hair?
- sufficient WAG?
- does he take it one shift at at time, focus on the little things, and just try to keep his game simple?
- is he willing to tell the viewers at home the above?
- will he have Carlton the Bear's back if a fight breaks out at a salmon farm?
- will he politely decline an invitation to Lupul's hookers and blow parties?
- if we sign him to a redonkulous 8 year contract extension, and it turns out really, really, really badly for the team, does he like tropical islands, sandy beaches and drinks in coconuts with those cute little umbrellas?

I don't choose to compare the two because they both play defense........

Phaneuf was not a top pairing d

Phaneuf definitely was considered a top pairing D at the time. A bad one, but that's what was expected of him by most people. He was #2 for Calgary in ice time when they traded him to the Leafs.

I didn’t see it, but guys are saying Karlsson faked going into the Tampa room when he got to the rink. Totally believe it. He’s a fun guy #Senators

Yzerman wants to recreate the Red Wings and he wants his Lidstrom. He already has Hedman and Stralman, if they have the assets available and they get Karlsson, good (frank)ing luck to everybody else.

You have to give to get man

The Leafs have plenty of talent, the core is pretty much set. a lot of the prospects the Leafs have will turn out to be nothing..If you have to trade a few to get something they desperatly need they will do it, for the right price

- Santo_44

So I'll pop this question again. If we trade good value to get McDonaugh is he the piece we need to win the cup?

(frank) no.

Remember how Bozak was our #1 center for a long time? Not because he was actually a good #1 center but just because he was the only decent center we had. That's McDonagh as a #1 D. He's nowhere near being a top #1 D.

Wrong question. Does he improve the team at a reasonable price and for a reasonable period of time? A big part of the Leafs winning the Cup depends on the continued improvement of their kids and some more additions/trades.

Grabner expected to be pulled from Rangers lineup tonight given trade talks happening... Rangers might potentially do same with Rick Nash.

Imo i think it will turn out the opposite if Tampa gets Karlsson. I totally see the Chemistry being disrupted and them shyting the bed. Not gonna argue just my Op.

Wrong

Phaneuf had 65% Offensive zone starts in Calgary. He was sheltered and when he came to Toronto he was not, which exposed him.

Don't compare the two players just because they both play defense

He has put up good numbers his whole career and his shot suppression and shot generation rivals a number 1 d

stop arguing for the sake of arguing. He is a top pairing d
