I don't think so. I think if it ever reaches the point where this volume of rumours leaks out about a player of that stature it's going to happen.

Karlsson settling for nothing less than market rate with one of the poorest and/or cheapest teams in the league reluctant to pay it, there's really only one outcome.

Of course, all the rumours a few years ago were that Stamkos was going to test free agency, and then he didn't, but i'd argue it's a lot different this time

Also if things have really reached the point of irreconcilable differences between the team and player, there's absolutely no reason not to trade him at the deadline to get the biggest return possible. Unless they insist on this dumb idea of attaching ryan to any trade

That would be a terrible deal for Buffalo.

Sprong can score but he uses the same move every time and scoring is all he does, included with that, he has off ice baggage and is dumb as paint.

Kane is a multi dimensional player who is tough and can score and if he would ever ix his off ice stuff could be a cornerstone for a team.

it sounds like they're dangling gillies as a trade chip. i think if that happens they also acquire a veteran guy to act as no. 3 goalie

backup goalies aren't typically expensive in trades, the Rieder trade being a notable recent exception

Looking at the list of pending FA goalies...i think johnson might be the best/only option tbh

But Hunwick toils!! He's a really good toiler, I've not seen toiling like it before & no way you have anyone that toils better. It will also give you a chance to trade Harmonic back for Barzal.

Let Backlund drag brouwer around the ice instead of the young guy. Hathaway's a bit better but he's border line NHL too.

eh i bought the Brouwer excuse for awhile, it was a valid one, but bennett is maddeningly inconsistent even without him on the line. i'm not a huge hathaway fan either but i don't see him as the black hole brouwer is on every line. he's been in the nhl three years and has shown no signs of breaking out offensively, halfway through his bridge deal. absolutely, definitely not worth breaking up one of the best 2nd lines in the league to help him out

maybe he works out on another team, but frankly i've seen enough and don't blame the flames if they move on. especially if they can package him for a legit top six guy

as for GG he's almost certainly going to be fired if the flames miss the playoffs, i have some complaints about him, but his handling of bennett this year isn't really one of them
