worst trade of Shero's life. he must've used up all his magic on the Hall trade. Grabner is worth a 3rd at best.

I think I like this trade - weird as it is to get a Ranger - but a solid scoring winger to "reward" the team for a great season and maybe help them cement a playoff spot, and didn't give up a ton of value.

Not sure what you're talking about. He has scored a lot of goals this year and last and plays RW which we need badly. I'm not enamored with trading with the Rangers, but the price wasn't very high. We're a team with a lot of cap space as well so you can get a deal now and not deal with free agency.

yea, he's having a good year. minimal everything besides goals this year. it's not like he has a career of years like this. He's a 2nd liner at absolute best, usually a 3rd line tweener. I know it's "just" a 2nd, but I think 2nd round picks are more valuable than 1-dimensional grabner.

But maybe he'll prove me wrong.

He wasn't really a consistent top 6 guy in his glory days as an Islander right? For the Rags? On the plus side, most of his goals have come at even strength. He never did anything for me.

I think this is a trade where it's fair to like it or dislike it, but I don't think I'm drinking cool-aid.

Grabner has been a solid scorer for the last couple years, and is extremely fast which very much fits with the Devils current identity.

The price they paid is medium. Giving up a 2nd isn't great but won't break the team. My understanding is Rykov has potential but also might never leave the KHL. He was a 5th round pick two years ago.

To me the biggest knock on this trade is, why are the Devils trading futures for a pending UFA? Clearly they aren't true Cup contenders this year. I guess what I'd say to that is I do believe at this point there is value, for the team and also just as a fan, of the team making the playoffs and having as good a showing as possible. I like the idea that when a team has a surprisingly good season, the GM "rewards" them with some help to make the push. Shows faith in the team. I get in theory the concept of "if you aren't competing for the Cup you may as well get a top 10 pick" but for where this team is at I think getting experience both making that last playoff push and competing in a playoff series is valuable. I think the idea is Grabner helps them there, and who knows maybe they'll resign him this summer.

The only problem I have with this trade is that he is a rental..paying a 2nd for a rental wouldn't be horrible if we were legit cup contenders but we aren't. Sheri said he doesn't want to mortgage the future so I hope he has a plan to resign him.
