I think Kempny, Hartman, Forsberg are players that show flashes of potential. The question is will they ever reach their potential. I would have preferred they kept Kempny and would prefer they keep Hartman and Forsberg a little longer. However the return for Kempny was ok. If they get a good return for Hartman (or AA, Sharp, Wingels, Bouma, Rutta for that matter) I would be ok with that too. He is probably a 2nd liner at best and a 4th liner at worst. |

They "reassigned" Tallon in 2009.
It's as much about what he doesn't do when reassigned as what he does.
See, there are two other alternatives: 1) they keep hm right where he is 2) they fire him and another team with a better roster, maybe in their own division, hires him and he embarrasses the poop out of the franchise.
They could use him a lot like they've used Barry Smith (who's also an old coach). Troubleshooting and teaching, evaluating and skills coaching up and down the organization. Or they could have him just scout. - John Jaeckel
Well may it be the only way we hear about the Powerplay musing over the years comes when there is no powerplay between Q and any players, coaches, and Bowman. There would be no power play if Q stepped down.
So he would be hired immediately..The new organization and GM could care less whether Q was inept in any way.
It does seem that Q likes to trust his best players to a fault. That has to be his thinking..Keith on the powerplay because he is the best dman on the team? Why does Q ignore the evidence even this season that Keith is not good, not capable on the Pp. |

Comparing Tallon's situation in 2009 and Q's situation in 2018 is just wrong. If they reassign Q he will leave at the first opportunity (and it will not take him long to get that first opportunity). - -Doh-
Which would be fine with Rocky - gets him out of paying the remainder of Q's contract (2 more years at $6MM per). |

Schmaltz turns 22 today. Now that #8 is on the wrong side of 21 Stan should seriously consider unloading him for picks or prospects a the deadline. This team needs to get younger. |

Hawks have 21 games left and are sitting at 60 pts. They'd almost have to win out at this point. 2 or 3 losses at most, even that might not do it. |

For sure. Better get something for him while they can. Still pissed Stan didn't throw the kitchen sink at Sakic to get Dutch. |

Or sign him to a 6 year contract because everyone knows when you hit 28 you are finished. |

Ek claims that the Florida Panthers are buyers all of a sudden.
Time to call Uncle Dale and then start working on Seabrook on how nice the weather is and the favorable taxes are in Florida. |

I'm not sure Tallon wants to bail out his successor in Chicago taking the worst contract in the NHL |

Moving Seabrook would probably cost the Hawks DeBrincat if the trade to Carolina is any indicator. With Stan he operates on another value playing field than most GMs....I mean Stan is the one who gave away TWO number 2s for Timmonen at the exact same time Montreal was giving up ONE number 2 for Jeff Petry, a guy who actually WAS playing NHL hockey. |

True. Ended up being a waste of assets. But that same year he traded for Vermette, giving up the #30 pick and Klas Dahlbeck. Even though the Kimmo trade sucked he ended up playing longer than Petry that year.
You can say it was a no brainer trade (the Vermette deal) or it's not a real trade, but I remember a horde of people on here bashing Bowman for not parting with precious picks or prospects to make this very same type of trade in 2011 and 2012...can't have it both ways. |

The fact Kimo played longer than Petry is a laughable argument on every level as if Kimo had ANYTHING to do with the Hawks winning the Cup and if Petry was the reason Montreal did not.
The point with the Vermette trade is it took absolutely no real brilliance to acquire a UFA to be for a #1 and a prospect. That's pretty much the going rate. So Bowman didn't (frank) up that deal, good for him. I think we should take the small victories with this GM. And yes, he should have fixed that situation in 2014, whether it was he or Q who wanted to double down on Handzus someone screwed up by not getting Vermette a year sooner (it was pretty much known he was available as Coyotes were looking to rebuild).
And the point of the Kimo trade is it isn't just a "bad trade" or "Stan missed', it's an example of certifiable incompetence. The Danault trade is only marginally better because at least the players Stan got had been (sorta) playing.
I mean think about this...Bowman gave up...
THREE number 2s and Phil Danault for
-one player who hadn't played in a year, shoulda been retired, soon would and had blood clots....and two players who were healthy scratches most nights.
Dumb!!! |

Perspective is everything. No one complains about the Vermette trade because we won the Cup that year. Everyone destroys the Ladd trade because we did not win the Cup that year. If that was flipped it'd be the same. You look like a genius when you win and an idiot when ya don't. The secondary deals has always killed Bowman though. Every GM makes good and bad deals. We got luck with a lot of trades early on with this team, but now not so much.
