Faulk may cost more than Hexy is willing to play and I'm not sure he'd want to lock into anyone beyond 18-19. Thing I like about Benn is that he could probably be acquired for a prospect that likely doesn't have much of a future with the Flyers.
I'm thinking they make the trade for "future considerations", after the playoffs, Vecchione goes to the Habs. He's a pure center and they are very thin up the middle. He really doesn't have a role with the Flyers. He's never going to pass Couturier or Patrick on the depth chart, nor in all likelihood Laughton and the Flyers already have a potential top 6 guy in Frost in the pipeline along with middle six/bottom six prospects Vorobyev and Bunnamon. Vecchs is also 25 so what you see is pretty much what you are gonna get.
This would be a deal that, IMO, fairly benefits both teams. - BiggE
I would be ok with that.
Also if you got Benn it could allow you to move Gudas at the draft or offseason since they are pretty similar.
It's not rocket science. Nobody says manning is a better defenseman than Sanheim (even MJL). But for the role we need Manning is ATM, or, at least he was at the time Sanheim was sent down.
Simple fact is that Sanheim still needs to work on play in his own zone. He needs to get stronger, and his coverage needs to get better.
On a side note, I feel like they did him a disservice by starting him in the NHL when Morin was clearly more ready. Especially to be in the role they seem to need filled. - MBFlyerfan
Being the primary puck mover on a pairing with Gudas is a not a role you should ever expect to see Morin play.
The defense is being carried by the league's best top pairing while the bottom four struggle to stay afloat. How anyone could have watched Manning and Hagg since Christmas and thought these are guys who deserve to play every single night and there's no room for a dman with Sanheim's skills, is beyond me.
It's easy for people to talk tough and knock a guy from behind a computer. It takes stones for him to take on some of the guys he has. Does he win them all, no but everyone on that team respects him for what he does. - J35Bacher
No one has ever questioned his toughness. He gets "handled" in a majority of his fights. That's not a knock that is a fact. I am also sure he has the respect of his teammates.

The only other team I am rooting for this season, outside of the Flyers of course, is for the Blues.
I am rooting for the Blues to miss the playoffs.

yes Manning is a good 7th D and a good team guy.
Like the Benn idea but I believe Gudas needs someone who can move the puck, so he doesn't think he needs to.
SanHeim is pretty simple, if they could have given him more TOI he could have worked out some of his issues. They really couldnt this year, better he keeps his confidence and bulks up.
Hate to say it but I would be happy with 1 point tonight. The Flyers have been on the verge of losing, giveaways, timely goals and timely saves have all been a big part of their recent wins. Most teams that are on winning streaks show these signs as the streak is about to end. Add in the Jackets need this game bad and the Flyers beat them last time and .....
I am not being negative and y'all can hammer me when the Flyers win...

Re upgrading the D:
Besides Oduya, who I think at age 37 is really starting to slow and down and except for his vast playoff experience may not be that much of an upgrade over Manning, one guy who Hextall could possibly look at is Jordie Benn from Montreal.
Benn has his flaws, but he's still a better player than Manning. At 6'2 200, he has good size and uses it pretty well, he is a solid skater and has a bit of skill too. He could be an upgrade on the 3rd pair with Gudas and I doubt he'd cost a lot to acquire. An added bonus is that he's signed thru 18-19 at a modest cap hit of 1.1 million and could slot in nicely as an experienced #7 guy. - BiggE
he also has a Gudas like beard and is a ginger. how can you go wrong?
Weise is worse now than he was before he was sitting in his stall for a very long time Leier must be on suicide watch - Landsbergfan
Watching the passing and stickhandling in the women's Olympic hockey tournament he will not make the cut there, and i doubt he will make the transgender and special Olympics team's in hockey
Any Chance Hexy shoots for the moon and tries to get Karlsson? 6.5M cap hit so you have to move a salary with it, but Gudas would get 3.5M and it would be a RH D man for RH hand D Man swap. Just not sure what goes back the other way, maybe the blues first rounder?
I feel like they have a lot of the parts to make a run this year and they are one big tweak away from having the parts to compete in the grind of the playoffs

I hear you, but I also think (and hope) the Flyers are going to turn it up to try to win first place in the division. Jake said it after last game, so I think it's on all their minds.
