unpopular opinion but if simmer wasnt hurt i think we shouldve tried to trade him. we have oskar ready to take his place and we could've gotten some good assets in return

I don't think Lindblom is ready to replace Simmonds at this point in time.

Agreed and they are not the same player. We are better with him than without. I'm not ready to trade him in a playoff race.

while i agree to an extent, we're basicslly a lock for the playoffs (knock on wood) and i dont think we should resign simmer as he will command a lot of money and term and we know how that works for aging power forwards. better to get something now than nothing at all

The offseason is a better time for that deal. Who knows simmer may also take a home town discount. We don't know what his wants are and we don't know what hextall thinks of him contract wise. I don't see a need in the middle of a playoff race to trade away one our best forwards.

Im kinda surprised he hasn't been mentioned at all really in trade rumors or by analysts. I know Hexy is hush hush but even speculation, theres been nothing I feel. TSN made a list of trade targets and it had 45 players on it. Simmonds wasn't on it nor were any Flyers.

I wanna respond to a reply from BiggE from yesterday's thread. By no stretch is this a angry reply. Both of us were in agreement and giving Ghost full marks on the absolute fantastic play of Ghost in his own end.

First, I never thought in my wildest dreams that Shayne Gostisbehere would improve in his own end. It has nothing to do with his size because we've seen undersized player succeed on defense. Most recently Kimmo Timonen. The reason why I never thought I would see Ghost raise his level of play in all three zone is because he was that bad defensively. He still doesn't play on the PK.

With this said, I happy to be wrong. Hakstol has pushed the right buttons this seasons, with G and Ghost. He hasn't hit a bullseye in every decision but he's made the right decisions on the most important ones. Giroux, Provorov, Gostisbehere, Couturier, Konecny. These guys will be important to the team's success.

May be late, but hearing Carey Price out indefinitely with a concussion. Guess he should have followed the protocol.

The Habs better hope for another free buyout in the next CBA or that contract is gonna haunt them for a long time.

FWIW, I think Ghost would be good on the PK. He has great anticipation and reaction speed.

If we opt to go with a more aggressive style of pk - which I hope we do this summer - I think he's excellent for the PK. With our current style where our defense sits idly waiting for them to take shots and box out the rebounds I think he would have trouble.

Also agree how much Ghost has improved defensively this year, although a lot has to do with playing with Provorov our best defensive all around D by far. Ghost last year finished with by far the worst plus - for D at-21. Since Xmas he has 20 pts and +14,
Provy has13 pts and +13, Amac 10 pts -1; Gudas 6 pts -3, Manning 6 pts-2, Hagg has been the worst 1 pt and -5. As bad as Gudas and Manning have been Hagg has been worst, but just shows how Provy has brought up Ghosts game to another level.

They’re in a playoff run. He’s staying. As far as extending him....all depends on what he wants. If he wants to sign on again for 4 mil per then it’s worth a discussion. If he wants more than that then no thanks. It’s going to be a tough call to trade him before his contract expires as they are a playoff team now and probably next year. Sometimes deals expire.

Yup, I agree. Especially if paired with a big physical guy with huge reach like Morin. IMO, the best PK D pair I ever saw play for the Flyers was Howe/Samuelsson which would be a pretty good prototype for Ghost/Morin.

Win and lose with dignity. That young lady on Team Canada is going to see those pictures of all her teammates with medals around their necks, then her holding the box she put it in, and regret it.
