exactly why I think there is no shot at Marner or Nylander - mrn22
No shot at the deadline. In the offseason? Different story. I could see TOR moving one of them if their defense gets absolutely exposed in the playoffs and they can't ignore it going into next season. But I think the price for McDonagh will be too high for contenders to afford him during the season. It's entirely possible a fringe team or a non-playoff team pays what they want, but his NTC list will eliminate some of the basement dwellers from the list of potential trade partners. |

I would think this is more of a TJ thing. Some people carry around tick-tacks, TJ carries around penicillin |

Here is a question:
Do the Leafs have a better shot at the Cup with Marner or McDonagh on their roster this year? I am not suggesting one particular answer is right.

I don't think Nylander is going anywhere. I think there is a shot at Marner, but not a good one. - Pete V
Why Marner and not Nylander? They have identical goals/assists/points this year and Marner is a year younger. |

Just think that they wouldn't want to mess with the chemistry that Nylander and Matthews have going. I am not even saying one player is better than the other.

Probably McDonagh, if you strip away all the external factors. But age, RFA years, McDonagh being a UFA after next year, etc... makes that deal all the more complicated for the Leafs. |

Joe Smith, TB Times:
What Steve Yzerman won't be doing is dealing from his current lineup, so the likes of Mikhail Sergachev and Brayden Point won't be going anywhere. #TBLightning @TB_Times #NHLTradeDeadline @TBTimes_JSmith https://t.co/NTF2sP5b5P
#tblightning GM Steve Yzerman is unsure what he'll be able to do at deadline, noting there are "very limited" fits. What he won't be doing is dealing from his current roster. "We're trying to keep this team together with the hope of improving it." Here's more from our talk today
That will make dealing for McD challenging. Would require multiple picks and/or players. Does Raddysh, Howden, Foote and a first excite you? - airjan23
I like Foote, has good size RHD, good offensive instincts. Raddysh would likely be a bottom 6 guy and don’t know about Howden. It’s close but I might do it with the 1st |

if McDonagh plays like he did the way he played in his last game, that 6-1 loss to Boston, the Leafs will be out in 3 games |

I don't disagree with that. But, then that deal would be no more available in the off-season that it is now, would it?

Makes sense. I would prefer Nylander also but that’s only based on the few games I’ve seen the Leafs play. |

I think it would give them a lot more time to analyze the situation and figure out what their plan of attack is. That is a major transaction that will have organizational and cap ramifications for years to come, especially if they plan on re-signing (or trying to) McDonagh.
TOR is likely to run into a BOS buzz-saw in the first round and they may not even make it past that round. Trading a young potential star for what could only amount to a year plus 20 games of Ryan McDonagh would be big risk for a team that isn't really a serious contender yet. |

I think you're underselling Raddysh a little. He's been over a PPG in every single OHL season since his draft year. He's a big boy, to boot. He could be a good player in the NHL. |

Please Stop!!
Nothing wrong w/ owning a gun, so please stop ridiculing those who do.
It's ALARMING that many people own a gun.??..especially when the majority simply own a pistil or shotgun for hunting or protections |

well the Rangers definitely could use a young forward with size who is a right handed shot in the organization, thats for sure |

That proves what I wrote earlier, Jan, in that he was only using some "make believe" interest in acquiring Karlsson to lower the price to give up for McDonagh. But Karlsson would cost more than McDonagh would in both trade value, and if signing extended there as the NHL's highest paid player he said he wants to be, would leave their salary cap in shambles 2 seasons from now, as I had broken out there in detail. Furthermore, even if the perceived new contracts for the two were reversed (instead of Karlsson at likely $12M then and McDonagh then at $6M minimum), Tampa needs McDonagh much more than they need a Karlsson as their final piece to a possible Cup winner.

If I were Gorton I'd be looking to stockpile centers and defensemen like, well....it were my job. Not every prospects reaches their ceiling, or even comes close to it, so overstocking at important positions is pretty important if you can. |
